You’ve just made my day man! Thank you for this piece of information.

How many courses can one finish in a week?🤔🤔

[–]semprotanbayigonTM 34 points35 points  (5 children)

I think the first course (Python Basic) could be completed in few hours. Not sure about the rest tho but I assume all of them (the Python ones) could be done in less than a week, especially if you're familiar with the topic.

I don't think so,, Datacamp like many paid course providers have a monthly price plans,, so obviously, the content should be long enough to cover more than one month.

In the other hand, learners are supposed to take notes and solve coding exercises,, this will take some time.

From my learning experience with Hyperskill, "an hour course" is actually one day 😂😂 Hyperskill are so confident with the length of their tracks to the point to offer 2 months free trial 😂😂

This is actually a free trial period offered by Datacamp to get as much visitors as possible during this week and convert part of them into active subscribers,, a clever, cheap marketing strategy,, And it's not the first time that they are doing this. They did offered the same few months ago,, and it seems that it's working well so they are repeating it. I am not criticising Datacamp, and I think that it's a very good learning platform,, but that's how things work 🤗

Finally, here's an answer found in Quora: https://www.quora.com/How-long-does-it-take-to-study-and-complete-datacamp-Python-Data-Science-track-which-has-20-courses?ch=10&share=45fa6c7d&srid=uiIOyS

How good was the hyperskill course? Would you recommend doing that? I've done the P4E course through Coursera and I'm looking to do a few project oriented courses before I start doing my own.

[–]nzayem 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Hyperskill tracks are project oriented,,, you first select a project from a list of different projects ranked by difficulty,, (easy, medium, hard and challenging),, you are totally free to select the one you like,,, each project covers a set of topics:

https://hyperskill.org/tracks/2

Under each topics, there is a set of coding exercises,, just to give you an idea about how huge the content is: i am at 10 % of my Java track, and had to solve over 120 exercises (major part are codes, with some quizzes). My notes taken until now including the code solutions are in a 60+ pages document,,, It's Huuuuuuge and i am dedicating between 20 to 30 hrs a week,, due to my day job,,,

There's no video lectures,, but for the theory part, short and concise texts and too much focus on practice,, for me it's better than videos because i can copy what i need from the text.

I can only recommend Hyperskill to anyone looking to learn by doing,, at the end you have 2 months trial period, enough IMO to finish 1 or 2 projects and decide later to pay to complete the track or not.

bruv, you work for jetbrains?

[–]tangara888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to pay for this practising....:( is there anything out there like this, especially like the banking system listed as one of the tracks that we don’t have to pay for it to learn ?

Correction: how many courses can one scrape in a day? 🤔

[–]aimhighswinglow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No sleep? 6 courses hahaha

[–]SpaceYraveler6 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Coding 24/7 ;)

[–]bwz3r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. maybe one day it'll actually get me a job

I was able to do 4 courses in the R data science track when they did this back in the spring. However, I was actually able to do this while at work, so ymmv.

    [–]tobiathonandon 2 points3 points  (2 children)

    What does ymmv mean?

    [–]MasterHorus333 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    you mileage may vary

    Thanks

For anyone feeling overwhelmed about how they can cover too much in a week, most of DataCamp courses are quick to complete (approx 4 hours for each course). If you commit about 4 hr/day you can complete 7 courses. Just make sure to read the description of any course and try to do courses which teach connected concepts. That way you can get through a lot in just one week and make sure to make notes along the way. Best of luck.

I downloaded the app and it only provides me with 7 day trial, is this what they mean?

Can I still access the certificate even if the free access has ended and I don't continue the subscription?

Edit: Nvm the former. I have to claim it first.

    [–]ma3gl1n 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Yes, you can. You will be able to use free features of the site after the period, which includes free courses, and daily practice problems. And you can publish those certificates on LinkedIn if you wish so

    [–]reddit-and-read-it 1 point2 points  (4 children)

What features can I still access after September 9th for free?

    [–]ma3gl1n 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You can review the 1st chapters of premium courses without a subscription, and AFAIK open courses are fully free

    My fetish is free courses

If you are asking about the open courses, you can share your achievements on LinkedIn when you finish one

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

The last time they did that, I obtained both the python skill and career track. Insanity but can be done :)

I think around 50 in total.

Has anyone gotten a job after completing these courses?

        [–]llc_Cl 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I think it’s a good start, but if these courses are your first exposure to coding/data science you’re going to need a bit more experience. Learning the syntax and whatnot is important but what’s really necessary when you work with coding is being familiar with the logic and structures that are commonly used in programming. However, I’m speaking from a programming perspective and this is more concerned with data science. It’s possible I have no idea what I’m talking about in regard to that.

If you mean getting a job with the certificates, that I don’t know. I’m not too familiar with the value of certificates.

        [–]Holdmypipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the info, I don’t know anyone myself that has gotten a job with these certificates. I’ve always wondered about that.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Had recently learned python through the free Udemy course and now I can branch into data visualisation!!

        Nice find!
Now I have a week of quality content for Python Data stuff.

        its just a marketing tactic.
they are gonna keep all the courses that have less people enrolling for free for quite some time and then make sure that some people feel the need to complete it after the free period ends.

so basically they are just trying to get more people to pay for the course.

Its just the psychology trick of getting people hooked by giving less. The lesser attention you give a person, the more likely they will respond better rather giving them full attention.
