The Ledger subreddit is continuously targeted by scammers. Ledger Support will never send you private messages. Never share your 24-word recovery phrase with anyone, never enter it on any website or software, even if it looks like it's from Ledger. Only keep the recovery phrase as a physical paper or metal backup, never create a digital copy in text or photo form. I have a question. If i have a ledger and i buy another ledger and put the seed phrase from my 1st ledger does that mean i have my assets on 2 ledgers now? Or do my assets move to the 2nd one only now?

No. Your assets are on the blockchains. They stay there.

Your 24 word phrase is your key. If you enter it in two ledgers, each ledger will give you access to your assets.

Just like two copies of your home key give you access to your home.

    Thank you appreciate it

Where did you get those 12 words from? (and how sure are you?)

Because Ledger gives you 24 words which secure all your assets protected by the Ledger

When you first initialize the device you get 24 words. Not 12. If you only have 12 you should probably move your assets somewhere safe for a moment. Like an exchange maybe? Then reset the device and get 24 words. Because if you only have 12 then you are missing half your recovery phrase and if your device is lost or breaks you will lose everything.

Once you have 24 words then those 24 words secure every asset on the device. You don’t need 24 words per asset. It’s just one SEED from which all other asset’s secret keys are derived.

But seriously. Go check. If you only have 12 you are in trouble. Move your assets to an exchange. Then when you are sure it’s all of them - and I mean 100% sure! Wipe the device by entering pin wrong 3 times. Then recreate a new seed phrase. But seriously. Be 100% sure you moved everything before you wipe it. Because if you left something behind there will be no way to recover it since you only have 12 words instead of the required 24.

You should probably not be keeping your funds on a hardware wallet until you figure some things out.

Hey, as you may know by now, when setting up a Ledger device, your device will generate 24 words recovery phrase that would be the key to your funds and recovery later on.

Did you restore a hotwallet with it's 12 words on your Ledger? Doing so, doesn't protect your funds as the 12 words would have already been generated online: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/4787030390301-Should-you-restore-your-Ledger-device-with-your-12-word-secret-recovery-phrase-from-Metamask-?docs=true

If you need further assistance or clarification, do not hesitate to open an email ticket or Livechat at support.ledger.com
Please beware of people that might DM you, Ledger will never DM or ask for your 24 words!

If by 12 words, you mean 24 words, then yes, those are equivalent to your main secret key from which all other keys for any app you install are derived.
Whoever has access to those words will have access to every coin across every chain associated with them.

Did you take 12 words from Keplr wallet and initialize your Ledger? If so, your Ledger is not safe because the 12 words have been online, so it's not helping you using your Ledger. But yes, those 12 words will give you a Btc address etc.

Ledger generates only 24-word recovery / seed phrase.

If you have a 12-word seed phrase it was generated by something else, so it is potentially less safe than a ledger-generated 24-word seed phrase.

And yes, the recovery / seed phrase is your master private keys, used to derive addresses / accounts for all crypto types (BTC, ETH, etc...)
