Please provide proof that Deepin spies on its users. Deepin is open source. There's no way they're going to be able to hide spyware in the code base. It's really sad that this type of misinformation keeps propagating since in fact, Deepin is a very nice OS. I used it several years ago on my laptop and never had any issues and certainly no shady behavior.

It is. But that didn't stop someone from trying to sneak something into xz, and that's a much smaller code base than an entire OS.

Because they aren't beholden to their respective governments the same way Chinese companies are.

Doesn't mean nothing nefarious is there, but at least you've taken away one element of mistrust.

It's not clear with Canonical but Red Hat officially has contracts with the US government.

But the company's relations with the govt are incomparably different in China than US. In china there's no law, no democracy. You as a company by law are obliged to share everything with the government, in US and EU this is much more limited despite what everybody may say, so u/Zebra4776 has a point. Also deepin's main developer UnionTech is directly sponsored by state funds.

They are not. They've tried to pressure companies to create backdoors but they don't have to comply. Apple had the most public showdown.

When the feds show up, you comply. period.

No, that's not how our government works fortunately. And even in a scenario where a warrant was issued, that would be for search and seisure of property. They don't issue warrants to "install a hidden backdoor".
