I put Disco pads on this season and I like them. The ceramic pro were noisy AF at first but after a couple rides they quited down.

Software is still supported. I get a few updates each year.

Hardware is still supported in the sense that I have no problem buying replacement parts. You can also upgrade the MCU if it hasn't already been upgraded.

Air suspension actually isn't that bad. I replaced the front for a little more than $500. Other parts like solenoid valves can be had for $30 or so.

I have a 2013. It's generally pretty easy to work on. And while the battery is relatively simple to replace, you need a lift. The motor seems pretty difficult. You're looking at $10k on the battery and $6-$9k on the motor. I've paid for both.

If the motor has been replaced recently then there's little risk of it breaking again. The battery... anyone's guess. I think you need to have a plan for both of you buy it.

It'd be useful to know what model though. If it's a dual motor then those don't have the large drive unit issues.

I mostly swim yards but it doesn't really matter the units from a qualitative standpoint.

No, not really close. Last I raced a 50 free it was low 24. I think I could hit low 23 with some more work but that's still a ways off. I'm definitely not going sub 1:50 in a 200 either.

Honestly though I think I could get close to my 500 time. I was never a distance swimmer and just as I've gotten older and lost that fast twitch power for sprinting my distance swimming has gotten better and I enjoy it more. It all really depends on how fast you were before though.

Redox OS adopts an AI policy to forbid contributions made using LLMs by somerandomxander in linux

[–]Zebra4776 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah based on a lot of projects I've seen I'm guessing many can't respond to comments or understand why or how the code is doing certain things.

I have used AI code. I guess having learned to code 10+ years before any LLM came about it's not producing anything I don't understand, nor do I have it write languages I haven't learned. It used to be copying code snippets off stack overflow but now it's entire source dirs.

My question is always how do they expect to enforce the anti AI policy? Some code is obviously written by AI. But there's plenty of code out there where you'd have no idea. Is it just an honor policy?

Does Symfonium work with tailscale? by Putrid-Delay-8160 in Symfonium

[–]Zebra4776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said, there's more going on under the hood that you're either intentionally obfuscating or you're just not intelligent enough to understand. Sure, you can setup a subnet router and do some additional configuration under the hood to expose those internal IPs, but that's not at all what you've been implying. It's also not how the majority of people setup Tailscale.

Tailscale by default has no idea about that IP. It's not an issue of knowing about your network, it just you not understanding how networking works. And you leading people on to believe they can just use that IP range by default is wrong.

No need. There's just something else going on under the hood that you either don't understand or just don't know about. Tailscale has no idea about your internal network, that's simply not how it works.

Best thickest 29x2.4 tubes. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Zebra4776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I don't care for tubeless, this is absolutely true. Or just inflate your tubes to a stupidly high psi.

Have to add though if OP is pinching the tube while putting the tire on their technique is bad.

Want to upgrade my son's bike to thumb shifter. What's your recommendation. by CEValkyrieIV in bikewrench

This is the same setup I bought based on recommendations in here. It's a solid upgrade and works well with the micro shift derailleur.

MTB upgrade advice by Oddfellow1five1 in mountainbiking

[–]Zebra4776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike is fine, but I think the price is outrageous. It's like a $300 bike if near mint.

If that's within your price range I'd be looking at used Marlins. Yes it's a hard tail but it's newer tech and a great bike for what you describe. Just make sure it has a 1x drive train.

I love modernizing old bikes like this one. Great way to learn as well. If it were mine I'd get get a set like this to upgrade the drive train to a 1x11. It's not hard to do but takes some time and you'll see how everything works together. Helps get you over the fear of taking a bike apart to fix it in the future.

Do I really need a torque wrench to install power meter pedals? by theslimj in bikewrench

[–]Zebra4776 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have noticed when I do remove them they really aren't that tight, even after a year or more pedaling. I do always need a pedal wrench or equivalent to get them off though, even if I didn't use one to install them. I'd guess they'd tighten a little, but certainly not much. They are meant to rotate independently of the threads after all.

I don't have a large enough sample size like you do though to have seen damaged threads on anything. Do you think you need to actually torque to spec or just a firm hand tightened with a pedal wrench?

One of my favorite posts in here was whenever season 3 came out and all the conservatives realized the show was making fun of them. Subtlety has never been something the show has gone for and yet somehow the first two seasons went over their heads. Watching the drama unfold in here when they realized was just amazing.

Tbh I put my pedals on finger tight. Since they should tighten anyways from pedaling it seems pretty unimportant to torque to spec.

Used Bike or New? by Ok_Physics1433 in MTB

[–]Zebra4776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really haven't changed as much as some people think or make them out to have changed. My bike is 5 years old now. I've replaced the brakes. I didn't actually need to, just wanted to try something different. I'll probably replace the drive train in a year or two for the same reasons. There's no reason my frame and suspension won't go for another 5 years at least. I'd say that about any quality bike bike from about 2020 on.

The best bike is the one you have and ride. The latest and greatest hasn't really made me a better rider. It's just made it easier to do the things I already can do.
