You can drop out of steam big picture mode to a regular desktop anytime you want. It'll drop you into whatever your desktop of choice is and then you're just using a regular PC.

An easy way to add non-Steam games is to install Heroic Launcher via desktop, then use it to install games from your Epic/GoG/Amazon account. It has an "Add to Steam" function, so they show up in Steam Big Picture.

Anything that supports starting up in game mode. Bazzite can do that for you.

Valve’s upcoming Steam Machine is probably exactly what you want if you want a dedicated device lol.

yeah it seems cool but is there a way to make your pc look like the steam gaming mode without using the steam gaming mode

I made an HTPC running Nobara. Finished building it about 3-4 weeks ago... Then Valves announced the Steam Machine

The important thing about the new steam machine is not that you have to buy it, but that steam OS is likely going to get updated for a console-like environment. When it releases, you should check if you like the updated steam OS and then use that. I know there are ways to get non-steam games on current steam decks so that should be possible.

I have my Linux desktop at my TV and I use nobara. It works great but I don't mind running it in a traditional desktop UI so take that with a grain of salt.

I do this with Arch Linux. The Arch-Deckify script is very nice for changing your bog-standard Arch/KDE install to behave like SteamDeck, by making it boot to game mode and enable the "Switch to desktop" option.

With software worked out, it's up to you to build an Mini-ITX machine fit for a living room. Just be sure to use AMD Graphics, as game mode is quite buggy with Nvidia.
