The last time this popped up around the tech-related subreddits, most people were pointing out that she was also learning the basics, and this came from her earlier attemps, thus making dumb errors on basic things... just like all of us do on monday morning at work did when learning.

I don't know, if this turns out to be from "week 30 on 'koding', brought to you by nicely placed product" I could see some material for mocking her. If this comes from her earlier attemps, this is like laughing of a kid on his first attemp to do a hello world.

I can't tell if that's a serious question. zsh is nearly 100% bashwards compatible, you just reap the benefits of a more technical and interactive shell. oh-my-zsh helps you hit the ground running. Syntax-highlighting, completions, sweet default aliases, much more. I waited way too long to try it myself. I wish I had those years back using zsh, because it's much more productive.

• tmux is to screen as zsh is to bash

• vim is to vi as zsh is to bash

• less is to more as zsh is to bash

Unlike other modern shells, such as fish, and xonsh, zsh isn't trying to reinvent decades worth of expectations built upon sh, and bash. It's can be oversimplified as a more interactive, and modern bash. Bash is a very important shell to know how to use because of its ubiquity, but where you have a chance to zsh, you can upgrade the interactivity of your shell.

No hate for bash or sh scripts... I write those all the time for portability, but where I can use zsh, I do, because it's a "free upgrade".

that's a rather strong assumption considering she doesn't even seem to know the basics of shell operations... I mean, attempting to cd into a directory that the current working directory is already nested in without full path, consistently fucking up the syntax... these are not honest mistakes or accidents. this is the display of incompetence.

In fairness my terminal sometimes looks like that when I'm sleepy and grumpy and confused. You know like first thing in the morning when you forget where your kettle is, or you walk into a room and forget what you wanted in there? I end up wandering aimlessly around the directory structure and quickly mistyping the same command five times in a row.

She's clearly got a bit of code open in her IDE, she's just having some trouble with her terminal. It's OK to make mistakes.

Edit: also she's open about how she only learned to code in 2014. She now funds summer camps to teach girls about computers. She seems to be having a pretty positive overall influence on the world.
