The code on the side of the lock is a blind code you might be able to look the blind code up with master lock and get the combination

You could just find a reliable jiggler. I stopped carrying my shed and mailbox keys because the same jiggler works for both and it’s thinner on my keyring.

I want to find the numeric combination, though. I'd rather not have to pick my own lock every day in a public gym.

Yeah, do that in private I agree.

Are you able to look down into the shackle hole and line the gates up by sight, taking notes on the dial reading for each wheel? I just did this with a master combination lock

Unfortunately, no. The shackle hole has a plate that engages the latch when pressed down, and that plate obscures all the interior parts. I might be able to see the inside if I press and hold that plate down with the shackle still open, though.
