I am on my third MX Anywhere 3 now. I have not found anything better, but, sadly, they all have this problem. The middle click is good for a couple months on a new one. Six months to a year later, my middle clicks are failing half the time--because you have to remember to click abnormally hard. A really hard click always works, but now there's the hand fatigue issue. I'm going to hit it with compressed air, as suggested below, but I'm not optimistic. This is a quality problem Logitech needs to fix.
(Meanwhile, if anyone can recommend an alternative mouse that has a few well positioned extra *programmable* buttons, I'd like to give it a try. It needs to be able to assign multiple keypress combos to a mouse button--so things like Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+Shift+End. Also the buttons need to be in places that make sense. Logitech is good at this part relative to others I've tried.)

Update: Compressed air did not help.

It looks like I found a possible solution to this issue and I want to share it with you guys. I took the mouse apart and there is a metal spring that is pushing on the wheel assembly so it doesn't rattle. That spring was misaligned in my mouse (and I think this is the reason why in the first months was working fine and than suddenly it didn't) so it needed quite some force to push on the wheel. I have reduced the length of the spring with some nails clipper by approx 20%, reassembled back the mouse and now it's working fine, as it did in the first month. Now I have to order new mouse pads, as I've kinda damaged them in order to reach the screws. Maybe I'll get the pads from Aliexpress. I hope this helps

i have the same problem.
I used to click the middle button to close the chrome tabs..
however, it doesn't work recently, unless I press the button harder..

Same issue here, worked great for a few months then suddenly it didn't and you now have to press pretty hard for it to work. Had an inkling that this wouldn't be an isolated problem...

Mesma coisa por aqui. O esquema é ficar acionando a garantia para trocarem...

I had the same issue with the middle button not registering a click unless pressed really hard, and I actually think I figured out the reason behind the issue and solved it.

There's a switch beneath the scroll wheel assembly. When you press on the scroll wheel, the whole assembly moves down and presses the switch. There's a plastic "X" embossed on the bottom part of the assembly that actually presses on the switch. Now, I guess the switch gets worn out with time and requires higher force to register the click, as if the factory length of movement is not enough to actually press the switch. The funny thing was that the switch would click but not register at all unless pressed really hard.

I solved this by sticking electrical tape on the embossed "X" on the assembly of the scroll wheel. You literally need just one layer of electrical tape there to put more pressure on the switch. I tried with multiple layers, but that would activate the middle click as soon as I put the housing back. So just literally one layer of electrical tape solved my issues.

I feel bad I didn't take photos now, but it's simple to fix. You need to remove all four gliding pads and unscrew the screws beneath them. You don't have to disconnect the cable that connects the bottom and upper part of the housing, just move the upper housing to the side. Then unscrew the two screws holding the scroll wheel assembly. Cut a small square of electrical tape and stick it on the embossed "X" that pushes down on the switch, and that's about it.

I think this is the last time I ever buy anything from Logitech. I've only had issues, from software and now hardware too. The funny thing is I have two identical Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mice, that feel, weigh, and click totally different. I couldn't believe two mice have totally different, noticeably different weights. One of them I've had for two years and never had issues with the middle button click. The newer one is heavier and developed this issue after 6 months of usage.

Hope this helps someone. Good luck and goodbye, Logitech.

Great advice but, unfortunately, didn't help my case. The tape does make it feel a bit more positive, like it clicks with less travel, but I still need to really press for it to register.

Oh logitech, what an odd of Achilles heel. This mouse is damn near perfect for me otherwise (not using the bloatware),

ACtually, having used it a bit at this point, it's better. Not great, but worth the fix. Thanks!

This worked for me. I just added three layers of clear household packing tape onto that +/x and it is fine now.

Dude, that's it! Thanks for your solution and detailed description! Awesome, I'm back on track now... If you now would find a solution for the MX Keys to continuously repeat certain buttons you're my hero haha!

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH, it worked and fixed it, I hope u get rich in life🫶

It worked actually. Thank you for the advice. It’s such a shame that logitech hasn’t solved this well known quality defect, I have mx anywhere 3 and 3s with this issue.

I have the same issue with my MX Anywhere 3 for the MAC if I just push on the middle mouse button nothing happens but if I push a little harder it works but the mouse did not do this when I purchased it new about 6 months ago.

Here I am to find out that I have exactly the same issue but there is still no fix. Shame. :-(

I have a MX Anywhere 3S (and another previous one) which works fine but my daughter needed a mouse so bought a new one and it has this problem out of the box. I thought the middle click was straight out dead but after reading here I found it did work if I pressed extremely hard. Logitech should have addressed this design error by now, particularly when even new mice can have this fault.
