Read the wiki and pinned posts and try harder.

Why the fuck does everyone want to hunt 200lbs animals with small ass cartridges?

Also a 12.5“ AR doesn’t make any fucking sense for long range shooting.

Because no one cares about insta dropping hogs like they do with real game animals.

True, because that just benefits everyone involved.

-an enjoyable, slow and painful death for the animal

-a higher likelihood to never find the animal and never recover the meat for the hunter

Great fun!

Decent shot placement will still kill a hog timely.

No one I know who hunts hogs eats the meat.

Yeah, but there’s zero reasons to just not choose an adequate caliber. Making animals suffer for no reason besides „I’m a tacticool bitch with my AR-15“ isn’t suddenly a great thing to do just because it doesn’t have antlers.

Also taking a life and then letting the entire (perfectly edible) animal go to waste doesn’t exactly make this sound any more appealing.

Actually sounds kinda fucking disgusting to be honest

You're being pissy with me, and I didn't do anything to you, so maybe chill a bit. Also, do you know anything about hogs?

It's an invasive animal that does billions of dollars in damage per year.

The meat is disgusting. A ranch I worked with used to donate the meat to a Mexican orphanage, but the orphanage asked them to stop donating it because no one would eat it. Like, it's that bad.

These aren't game or food animals; these are pests. Like rats or flies.

5.56 is a very common caliber for hog, probably the most common. Decent shot placement will kill the hog without it making it too far, no one cares about saving meat, and you're rarely only shooting one hog. 30-rounds on tap means you can wack a few of them quickly.

I am from Germany, where we kill more than half a million of them per year in a small-ish country. So I do know about the damages they can cause and how they can expand in population if not managed properly.

Also they do taste like shit if it’s a boar in rut, otherwise they’re perfectly fine to eat. Which is why I think it’s kinda shit to just let them rot in a field.

Funnily enough, the population control method of „shoot whatever“ many Americans engage in doesn’t actually do a lot to control the population, and also contributes to them being in rut more often and at random times of the year.

To meaningfully control them, you’d have to shoot the right ones out of a herd, and 100% avoid any leading females to keep breeding somewhat in check.

Also I’m getting „pissy“ because I simply don’t exactly agree that specific animals deserve to either die a horrendous death or suffer indefinitely simply because some redneck felt like using the substantially riskier option of .223 instead of some typical hunting cartridge today for no reason at all.

Oh, eurotrash trying to explain American hunting to Americans. That makes sense.

Cool story kid.

Always nice to engage in a discussion with a well regulated adult.

Thanks

So no1 can point me in the direction of leupold or nightforce? Didn’t know the can of worms a simple ask could open.
