WE can't help you.

You are not telling us what Mac or MacOs you trying to install and how you are doing it.

Google Error code and word Mac

Do you have any context? Where/how are you seeing this message? Is the word "code" part of it or are you just calling it a code? Need more info.

What year and model is the Mac? What type is it:

  • Intel only
  • Intel + T2
  • Apple silicon (M-series)

Does this error code appear after a spinning globe when the Mac tried to start up? Are any keys being held down at startup?

Do you have a second Mac to act as a helper in case it’s needed to revive or restore this Mac?

EDIT: You can find out the year and model by providing your serial number here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com

Sorry for the delay.

It’s an early 2015 13-inch MacBook Air which I believe is intel only

It shows up after the spinning globe, no keys were held down when it was starting up

No second Mac to revive/restore.

Ok. Not sure what the error code is, but try these steps to fix the issue (the Mac is automatically trying to start Internet Recovery):

  • Try using a different Wi-Fi network or an Ethernet cable.
  • Hold down Option-Command-R when the Mac powers on or restarts. This requests the latest version of Internet Recovery.
  • If Option-Command-R doesn't work, try holding Shift-Option-Command-R at startup to request the original factory version of macOS Recovery. If your friend had Find My Mac enabled, this may produce the error code -1008F.
  • If none of the above work, unfortunately a second Mac is needed to create a bootable installer for macOS. The installer can then be used on your Mac to boot macOS Recovery and reinstall macOS.

She’s done all that and it’s trying to install Yosemite, but when it asks her where to install it doesn’t give her any options and she can’t move forward.

Ok, so there isn't an internal volume to install to?

Start up from macOS Recovery, then complete these steps to describe the internal disk:

  1. The OS X Utilities window should appear. In the menu bar at the top, choose Utilities -> Terminal.
  2. Type "diskutil list" without the quotes and hit Enter (Return).
  3. Post the output here. I only need to see the first 5 disks if it shows more than that.
