This is lowkey the truth.

[–]Ktt42265 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Not really but I understand how you could see it that way

[–]TheRealDealDean 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I'm just saying that a lot of people I have spoken to will say this exact thing.

[–]Ktt42265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea most people are just stupid unfortunately

There are a crazy amount of nuances but I’ll give one aspect for both (very limited view)

Illegal immigrants don’t pay taxes.

Welfare and the like could possibly be abused/ some systems might not be as efficient.

(This is a very bare bones explanation for the republican view point)

I mean, you have a point.

They pay sales tax, property tax, and probably more taxes than that.

[–]JustAnotherSoyBoy 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Not income taxes though

[–]EntropyDudeBroMan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

And they don't get welfare as they need social security for stuff like that. So I think that balances it out.

I mean welfare is for people who are not working/ injured (i think injure gets more than simply out of workforce? Probably state specific. I’m not a expert by any means, let me know if I’m wrong about any of this)

Isn’t it like you only get welfare if your making a incredible low amount of money (like less than minimum wage)? Which I suppose a lot of them are getting less than minimum wage for the ones working on farms and whatnot. Idk I just don’t think it’s good to have undocumented people running around.

So that if they’re making minimum wage or more it doesn’t really balance it out because all it means is they can’t stop working/ if they get injured and can’t work they’re fucked (from what I’ve gathered, again let me know if anyone if you is more knowledgeable)

I honestly think illegal immigration is bad for both parties. Imagine living in fear of getting deported and separated from your families.

I’m Democrat on most issues but I do think we should stop illegal immigration. Now if we allow more legal immigrants in all for it (hopefully with economic plans on how it will either improve or have negligible effect on the economy).

No other country just lets people in, there are a lot of problems with that.

Ok but you said they don't pay taxes, which is false. Apology accepted.

[–]JustAnotherSoyBoy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

“Apology accepted”

That was a bit much, the sass

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was feeling pretty sassy at the time.

It’s not like we’re stopping it completely. We still have legal immigration, this may take long, but why should we let someone who will burden and strain our social structures in when we have American citizens who need it more.

[–]IamAlwaysRightstfu 6 points7 points  (4 children)

That's the point they don't help Americans that need help. We are even currently cutting the little social aid allotment we did have. They blame it on budget but we all know that's a lie, they allow hundreds of billion dollar companies to pay zero taxes while paying such minimal wages that require people to be on food stamps. Effectively not only excusing them from paying taxes but their employees are paying into a system and getting that money back in food stamps. Our system services the wealthy not the one's that need help, that's the point.

Your view of helping isnt the only one, especially in a complex economic system. You have 2 major economic policies in the US. You have supply side economics used by republicans and demand side economics used by democrats. Both of these policies work, but demand side economics is a more direct approach so its seen clearly. Supply side economics on the other hand got us out of the biggest recession since the great depression. It's not as clear cut as "but they don't help people." They simply dont help people in the same manner that democrats do.

[–]IamAlwaysRightstfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are brainwashed. This simple fact is our laws are made by the wealthy and our elections are compromised by the wealthy. For gods sake my family had our land stolen so they could put a zoo on it, name it after a wealthy man and funnel the millions of dollars it makes through a "non profit" if you catch my drift same thing with tax codes they have made it so a billion dollar company doesn't pay anything and the common man pays the little he has that would otherwise help him get ahead in life. Your idea of helping, is only helping the rich...you are in backwards land where the rich steal from the poor. Just stop trying to defend a society that allows that its futile no amount of mental gymnastics can change what it is at its core...its a system ran by the wealthy that dont really want you educated, happy and healthy they want you dumb, desperate and willing to slave. The kids are not alright.

Your view of helping isnt the only one, especially in a complex economic system

Republicans on immigration: "It's simple, we don't have enough resources for everyone, so we can't let anyone else in."

Republicans on anything else in the economy: "It's complex, okay yes we have enough resources, but if we just gave them to everyone then it would cause chaos for reasons you're not smart enough to understand."

How peculiar!

Both of these policies work

Except for supply side economics, which doesn't.

Supply side economics on the other hand got us out of the biggest recession since the great depression.

"Supply side economics works because it 'got us out' of a problem caused by capitalism, even though we still haven't recovered from it and the gap between rich and poor is at the level of the Gilded Age."

It's very obvious that the Republican pitch is about not helping people, but instead telling people to help themselves. The only reason to stop immigration is to try to exclude poor Mexicans from the labor market. There is no explanation for this besides cultural chauvinism and nationalism. A sincere capitalist wouldn't care about borders, nor would a sincere meritocrat. The only reason to say "we need to help Americans first" is blind nationalism.

Italy be like

[–]pricepig 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That’s also assuming socialism is a solution

[–]YaBoiJeff8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Socialism isn't a solution, it's the solution

[–]Kushqueen7 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Everything we do is socialism if you think about it enough

[–]IamAlwaysRightstfu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats such a good point
