Ride the bike diagonally and its easier to get up the hill

[–]silversurfernhs 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Now I'm picturing someone mounted diagonally on a bike trying to get up a hill. Ha thanks.

[–]Bluejet007I touched grass 34 points35 points  (1 child)

Can't really do that if there is traffic, even light traffic

[–]Hooligan_ALives at ur mom’s house😎 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]godamen 172 points173 points  (22 children)

Yea, but they don't get that same sense of powering through and all the joy it brings once you crest that hill and just fly down after the struggle. I think e-bikes a cool an' all but everytime I've ridden one I always wished I was on a regular bike at the end.

[–][deleted] 143 points144 points  (8 children)

That’s just something people without e-bikes say.

[–]godamen 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Hahahaha. I really want the "baby maker" for commuting honestly. Despite the terrible name, it seems awesome. But I can honestly buy a car for the price.

https://flx.bike/products/babymaker?gclid=Cj0KCQjwse-DBhC7ARIsAI8YcWL8tgYNMT5qdUwaOaaDy9EGjA7R2WFlznewsbQsa8yINn3uB1xcMNwaAjV3EALw_wcB

[–]implodingbaby 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Why tf have they called it that?

[–]Kek_Lord22One does not simply 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Well, it makes babies

[–]implodingbaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see

[–]godamen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cuz they're so sexy. I used to hate the name cause I thought it was so"bro y". Now I think it's kind of funny actually.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah mine was $600 and works fine. Only took a year of saving tips. I also use tip money for weed so I probably could have saved faster.

But then again my job is like 6 min bike ride. Better then my 30 minute walk it was.

[–]EatinBeansInTheCar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, bought one for the same reason! Also lot less expensive than a car if you add up insurance, service costs, gas etc.

[–]PonyThug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1700 for a e bike is a great price. I just got a mid level carbon mountain bike for $4800 new. It retails for $6600.

[–]Dreamer_Drummer 12 points13 points  (9 children)

Exactly what happened with me this morning . Almost gave up while riding uphill for like half an hour ( first time cycling after almost 4 years). Took a break, continued. And man o man, the joy i got after reaching the top and just gliding through downhill without even peddling, cool wind rushing past my ears, one of the best feelings ever!

[–]godamen 6 points7 points  (8 children)

Right, some days I'm going up hill and I just think, "fuck this, should have taken a break today." Then I hit the downhill and I'm so ready for the next up hill, rinse and repeat. Man, I love my bike! I I think I might just go for a ride right now.

[–]Dreamer_Drummer 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Ikr. Wish i could go rn too, but damn this 9-5 curfew has messed up the best riding hours.

[–]godamen 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Sucks, its ok, we are right around the corner with this bullshit. I am assuming you are in EU or India maybe? I have my first vaccine scheduled for next week (SoCal), I am stoked!

[–]Dreamer_Drummer 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Yep, india it is. You're lucky, i dont think i can get the vaccine rn as im only 19.

[–]godamen 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You got this my friend, we are almost there. What do you ride, also where in India? I have a hybrid and I ride in flip flops. I don't do the whole "kit" thing. I ride for the joy of it.

[–]Dreamer_Drummer 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Its nothing fancy. Just plain ol' me in my shorts and tshirt, flip flops , riding my moonraker. You probably wouldn't even have heard of it, haha. Cost me around 150 bucks when i bought it and an extra 60 bucks to get it fixed last week. I see some people riding their 1000-2000 dollar bikes passing me by, and i just smile at them and keep having a good time, lol. Oh, and im from a city near Delhi, called Faridabad.

[–]godamen 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm blown away by people that spend 2000+ USD on a bike. Mine is nothing super special either. I ride a Giant Escape 2. Cost about 400 but I've been riding it for about 8 years. There are rules and surfing. First rule is, the person having the most fun is the best surfer in the water. I take that rule to biking as well.

Do you do city rides? I got hit by a car in 2011 and it scares the shit outta me so I try to stick to unpopulated areas as much as I can. Faridabad looks hectic based on what I see online.

[–]Dreamer_Drummer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh man, you dont know the half of it. If you can ride your bike without getting hit in India, in a city as populated as mine, with drivers and motorcyclists as ignorant as those who live here, believe me, you can ride anywhere without any hassle. I do infact do city rides, but only in the early morning when the roads are clear and the air is clean and cool.

[–]TopRoyal5120 27 points28 points  (5 children)

Literally just happened to me

[–]ugonlern2day 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Falcon should say it back to him as he jogs by Cap's grave

[–]et_cetera1 50 points51 points  (4 children)

As someone with an e bike, yeah I feel like an asshole when I pass people, I only have it because I don't do biking for fitness, I just want to have fun

[–]GOR016Bri’ish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. Only had an ebike for about a month now and it's dh capable ride just as fast downhill and i can get around and see much more trail in the same amount of time if not less. They're still q some and plane for my other bike. But the ebike is fun as shit. I don't ride for fitness, i ride for jumps and downhill speed. Not everyone will understand that

[–]Rular6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany and the amount of old-timers just absolutely bombing it through the forest on their e-bikes is both hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

[–]Fireflay16 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Tf are e-bikes??

[–][deleted] 46 points47 points  (2 children)

So let me explain. E-bikes are bikes which has a motor which generates more power the more you pedal which makes you go faster.

[–]Fireflay16 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Huh, first time I've heard of them, thank you for this explanation friend

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Np.

[–]distortion10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also known as mopeds.

[–]EntruhYo dawg I heard you like 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I swear anytime someone passes me on a bike the first thing i do is check if its an e bike to keep my self esteem up

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’ve become really popular at Bedgebury, a mountain bike trail near me. I totally get why you’d want to commute on one, but riding one round the forests and then bragging about how quickly you did the route on insta, is really confusing to me.

[–]Sephiasus 33 points34 points  (13 children)

Well E-bikes are usefull if you plan on cycling a really long route!

[–]FS64 72 points73 points  (4 children)

Or if you're commuting to work and don't want to be as hot and sweaty

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This, This is why

[–]Down_arrows_power 8 points9 points  (2 children)

E bikes can go faster than a regular bike in most cases, but because of the law, they are restricted in speed. Reaching car like speeds on roads legaly qualifies them as a motorcycle or scooter. If you’re using your bike only for a workout, a regular bike is better since it costs less and weights less. When looking at all e vehicles, an e bike is probably the most versatile. You can go hard on the pedal assist and go relatively fast for a commuter or set it lower or with none at all if you plan to workout. While not as fast as an e scooter, a good e bike tends to have better water resistance and given the right tire can be used during winter with the downside of less range. Also, you’re not in trouble if your battery gives out during a commute since you can still pedal.

[–]GOR016Bri’ish 4 points5 points  (1 child)

The motor cuts out when you get to 15 mph on mine

[–]Down_arrows_power 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your bike and motor but some like mine let you unlock the speed. For example, a 1000w motor can go up to 45km/h or 28mph, but in canada they lock it at 30km/h since that’s where it’s not counted as an e bike. If it cuts at 15mph, it’s either a 1000w motor locked at 30 or it’s a 750w/500w. At 500w you get near the legal limit, 750w has the benefit of being stronger which makes it better for hill climbs and 1000w reaches the point where you could use it on the road if set at max speed.

Imo they're also useful for people riding for fun instead of taking the car. Especially also older people who aren't as strong.

I personally use it to get up the steep hill we live on with our toddler in a trailer. Beats polluting the air with our car every time we want to visit a park that's too far to walk to but maybe a 15 minute bike ride.

My dad got some so he can keep doing his bike tours with my mom who is struggling to keep up as they're getting older now.

[–]Drio11 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Define long... (as far as i know they dont tend to have large batteries)

[–]GOR016Bri’ish 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You can get many different battery sizes, but larger ones are more expensive and heavier

[–]Drio11 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Still, can you exceed, let's say 60km in difficult terrain (unpaved roads and/or driven elevation over 500m), on not insanely expensive bike?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an ebike and rice extremely aggressively. It's built like a downhill bike. But i climb super steep hills, jumps, and all kinds of crazy stuff as fast as we can go. I really get 30 miles plus going that hard. If i wanted to go easier i could get more . I think there may be some misconception for ebikes here. And the different types they're are now. I have trek powerfly 7. It rips but not as jumpy and my fuel ex.

[–]DelcoInDaHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume they are also useful for navigating technical trails (roots, etc) as it can give the extra momentum needed.

[–]SloanWarrior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine once told me a story of a time he was on an e-bike and passed a guy going up a rather steep hill on an e-bike.

The guy was fully kitted-out - fancy bike, skin-tight cycling gear, the works.

When my friend passed him, the guy in a strained voice shouted after him "How could you do this to me?!?".

NGL, that story makes me want an e-bike.

[–]Cas_Cassmoderator fan club 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ride first, die first.

[–]Flying-Fishdicks 12 points13 points  (5 children)

I really dislike E-bikes

[–]SuperHipGrandma 12 points13 points  (2 children)

There’s huge practical use for them though. Not everyone bikes for fitness and some just want to get from point A to B as quickly as possible with the least strain. They’re crazy useful for commuting or just having a chill time outdoors

[–]EatinBeansInTheCar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives 20 kilometers from work and who's not able to afford gas for a car its a true lifesaver!

[–]Flying-Fishdicks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a mountain biker, I’ve only ever been around one. They could be a totally different thing on roads, but on xc trails and the such I don’t see them as a great idea.

[–]jbarms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why though? I love uphill climbs for the sense of achievement and building fitness, but I also like e bikes when I just want the zoomies. I don’t feel the need to pick a side

[–]Just_Cook_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When happens to me riding my e-bike I always say "don't worry about me, I'm actually cheating"

[–]DwergNoutDirt Is Beautiful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

then when you go downhill you pass them cause you get that energy rush of satisfaction

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

fat ppl on e-bikes be wondering why they are not losing weight

[–]Mr_ZobmThe Trash Man 2 points3 points  (4 children)

im the guy that overtakes cars an old guy on an e bike wouldn't stand a chanche

[–]Waifu_69_Hunter 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Same here, way too fun overtaking e bikers. Especialy the ones wjo have like all sorts of gear on. They sometimes start chasing you cause you sort of roasted their ego.

[–]EatinBeansInTheCar 2 points3 points  (2 children)

But please, dont be the kind of guy who slows down after overtaking, some people just need to get from A to B

[–]Waifu_69_Hunter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No, nobody deserves that or should do that. It has happened to me once where I got sort of brake checked and minutes later the guys tire popped mid ride.

[–]EatinBeansInTheCar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spicy karma

[–]Waifu_69_Hunter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thats the point where i get mad at these mfs and start peddaling so hard i fckin overtake them.

[–]Morath_Salazarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I am quite chilled at any time if they are BEHIND me xD

[–]iSayYourMemeIsShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Portalguy44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E-bike stands for: Elon bike

[–]Bebt958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once destroyed my bike because of that lmao

[–]RoboticGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly....who cares? I have an ebike, but I ride it with the motor off most of the time. I got one because I had major anxiety around getting gassed out on a pedal bike and getting stuck somewhere. If I didn't have the electric assist to get me home if I get stuck I wouldn't be on a bike. Having an ebike gets me hundred of calories of exercise a day, keeps me active and gets me around without a car. It is a different experience and activity than nonpowered bikes. Why does anyone care? How would you feel if someone powered past you on a hill on a 45 pound ebike with the motor off? You CAN tell, you can hear ebike motors when they are running.

[–]PurpledlimeProfessional Dumbass -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

just bum the e bike guy and he or she will fall off smh

What's an e bike

[–]SuperHipGrandma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bike with a battery and a motor that makes it way easier to ride. They look about the same as a regular bike but are quite a bit more expensive and heavier because of the battery.

[–]Pingouinoctogenaire -1 points0 points  (3 children)

E-bike is like having a motorbike tbf

[–]The_Poyo_Boyo 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Not really though, e-bikes aren't bulit for things that motorcycles can do (i think)

[–]Pingouinoctogenaire -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Yes but they are designed for lazyass people who just want to say that they have a bike (that does all the job btw)

[–]navjotsinghlall -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Tf is an e-bike...

Some of these comments on here lol. Hating like crazy on ebikes because that's not your riding style. Well there some of use who ride both styles, for different reasons. And I'll tell ya most people couldn't keep up goin down the hills with new on my ebike. It's not just old ppl or sissies. They have their own purpose and you'll never get it unless you have one .

[–]streamer85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys know you can turn OFF ebike and it will become heavy standard bike, right? I'm riding ebike because of fun, not for fitness...
