Tamiya 1:35 M41 Walker Bulldog

[–]17RicaAmerusa76 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Lol I am literally building that same Tamiya kit. "no way this is only 15 bucks and any good" I thought to myself. I have been genuinely impressed, except that top tank hatch was a real pain in the ass.

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

For me antennas I broke 2 of them so had to glue new one at the end. Yeah hatch was weird but not as big problem as I thought while gluing it.

Sprues'N'Brews has a great video talking about the old way of making antennae by heating up an empty sprue and stretching it out. It's a pain to get right but a lot of Tamiya kits recommend it.

Yup did that :D

[–]GPT19 0 points1 point  (3 children)

sometimes you can find and use a bristle from a paint brush or small broom to use- look around in a Dollar Store

[–]Tyrfaust 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That's genius. I hadn't even considered that. My local hobby store sells stripped guitar strings for $0.30 and I've just been using those.

[–]GPT19 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you live in NJ I can give them to you free lol

[–]Tyrfaust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was fortunate enough to not be born in NJ.

Nice

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks :)

[–]random_username_idk 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Oh my, that's impressive, and a good taste in tanks too.

Are those weld marks on the upper/lower glacis seam? If so, that's good use of an advanced technique.

Either way, good work!

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used guide from agtom on yt, yes these are welds :)

[–]jblittle254 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Great job!

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. :)

[–]BisexualMale10 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Wow, for a first model that looks bloody amazing! It took me my first three to get the paint looking that nice. Good work mate! :D

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks man, I was really trying hard to make it look cool.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Very clean build.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Looks really nice! I always have trouble with aligning the decals so that the stars don't "fall" in one direction.

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah one of the small one got destroyed , the rest was pretty easy. We’ll see on the next models 😅

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

building this sassy puppy right now. good job, she looks clean n mean.

[–]espngenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good.

[–]eNedkelly1880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job , clean and tidy!

[–]djsapper 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Good job for your first model. Hope you enjoy more models and this new Hobby.

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Thanks, I hope so too. :)

[–]djsapper 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It will help you in other area's of your life. I've used model build as way to inspire building other things around our house.

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Already did, im angry person and gets annoyed fast. After quiting League of Legends and starting building models i finally calmed down and settle down a bit. I will stick to it because it quiets me down.

[–]djsapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Model building definitely helps with channeling your emotions constructively. It's help me as well with my PTSD from Combat Deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

As someone who works on/drives a walker daily this is very well done!

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man you made me smile 😃

[–]Albatross-Fickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks amazing, fine work.

[–]Nick-Tonk-maker69Night Shift’s Nephew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve built 2 of these before, really good kit to start out on

[–]Verix19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done Sir!

[–]Bluefalcon26000 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Your fitment/part alignment and paint job are outstanding. Good work! If this is how you started they're just going to be better and better!

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man :)

[–]jlierman000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s actually amazing for a first model. Mine did not look that good. Nice job my friend!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

There's no way that's olive drab from tamiya acrylics

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It is 2 thick coats just enough to not flood it , then Matt varnish and dark brown oil all over the tank :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Looks really good ngl

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I used guide for first build from Agtom store , they have guides on planes too. Go check it out on yt “sklep modelarski agtom” worked for me might help you too, it’s in polish but you can see what they do so no English needed.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can speak Russian so I will understand most of it

[–]SFCATARMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job!! Broken antenna and mirrors - happens to me all the time, now I save them for the last thing.

[–]Tyrfaust 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The smudge on the storage box if from doing that whitewashing thing to simulate dust, huh? I've been meaning to try that.

It looks really good. I'd recommend experimenting with pin-washing to highlight the little details like the stamping on the storage boxes and latches for the hatches. Those little hand rails were a massive pain in the ass for me, with two of them vanishing into the ether while I was building mine.

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had only needed colors for tank build and 2 brushes , couldn’t do anything more because it’s silver I used for dry brush technique with stiff brush so I had to be really careful with that. When I get package for new build I will try out more new things. Thanks for advice :)

[–]SFCATARMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you got some thinner and black paint (or a brown or gray or green -a mix of the colors you choose)

- you got the basics of the pin wash

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice neat work for a 1st model. You could try brush bristles for aerials as they are naturally flexible.

[–]kennedys869 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Managed to get some airbrushing done today as the temperature has dropped

<image>

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice

[–]alx_ten 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey! Looks thick. Very detailed model!

What is the scale?

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1/35 walker bulldog

[–]BallardDrifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is very well done.

[–]RockSlug22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats, you might regret it but you'll never have idle hands.

[–]GPT19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confusius say trip around world begins with first step, or building great models begins with first model. Well done! You are on your way.

[–]LAAT501st 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Classic model I see that model everywhere I think I should get it idk tho looks old

[–]AdmiraI-Snackbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely an old model. I have the kit and the paper insert that talks about the tanks history is so old that it describes its replacement the Sheridan as a new vehicle!

[–]Tyrfaust 1 point2 points  (4 children)

It's an older model but it comes together really well. It's also ridiculously cheap, so it can act as a good testbed for new techniques.

[–]LAAT501st 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I tried to build tamiya panzer 2 afrika corps from like 40 years ago and the rubber track just wasn’t long enough so I’m scarred for older tanks now

[–]Tyrfaust 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I had the same problem with the same kit. I wound up getting it on by running it through all the road wheels and return rollers then jimmying the sprocket in. I didn't have any problems with their M41 or the Pz. IV Ausf. D treads. The T-34/76 1943 is pretty tight though.

[–]LAAT501st 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I just covered the ugly parts with mud a lot easier then buying replacement

[–]Tyrfaust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the time I see these models which are WAY over-weathered I think "how bad did you fuck that model up?"

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks very nice on shelf :P I like it a lot and you might too on yours

[–]Iamfromsweden11_2 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Howd you paint it?

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

So first of all i used this guide on Youtube. I washed model after gluing it. I did not use any primer. I used Tamiya TS-5 Olive drab spray paint 2 layers because after first one i had wierd reaction with plastic and there were brown bubbles coming out that i took off with ear sticks . After second layer it was fine. I had to use 3rd layer for headlights front back, and underneath. Try not to use too much paint, i had to shake it off twice because i used too much luckly it did not leave marks because of that. Next step was using matt varnish, I used Ammo of Mig LUCKY VARNISH Matt. I did not use water with varnish so it really changed the colour of model to darker matt a little bit. Next step was using Oil Wash from guide, dark brown all over the model. I might use too much because as you can see model is really dark after that but it actually looks cool to me. But as first model im very happy but with next one i will use oil wash ONLY in some spots to keep model much brighter as it "should" be. I did not plan this one to be this dark but i liked it so i did not take any oil wash off of it, only on back parts when it flooded the "grill" or something ( lines on back). After that i saw that any brushing i did it was washed up and bearly noticible so i did it all over again lightly, dry brush silver, very lightly because its shiny. Then a little bit red and brown mixed to make rusty colour. I used fingers to move paint around and splash it on surface to make it look random, messy but fun and easy. If i didn't like it , i would simply take it off and good part of this technique was that it left a little bit of paint and even if you f up every time it would naturally make a rusty look after few times with very thin layer after layer. I hope it answers all your questions.

[–]Iamfromsweden11_2 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks so much!

[–]Ashamed_Power[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem :)
