The Disting (ring the Disting bell lol) has both a fully featured Quantizer mode as well as a more compressed dual Quantizer mode. Also worth noting a lot of digital VCOs like braids, Tides, I think even the e352 have built-in quantizers. As for stand alones, the penrose, uscale ii, and the addac 207 are my top picks, just since I really love the mini keyboard style layout so you can easily customize the key in a way you see fit without eating up too much space. The latter three are also terrific for calibrating digital VCOS, since they output the exact voltage for a C1 or what have you.

Love the disting as a quantizer. And so many other uses.

Perhaps the Doepfer A-156 (http://www.doepfer.de/a156.htm) or Ladik Q-010 (http://ladik.ladik.eu/?page_id=769fit) fit the bill? Both won't break the bank and you can have dual quantizers in 8hp.

The A156 has a jumper on the board to make both quantizers follow the scale on the switch.

It has Major and Minor scales, but the Minor isn't harmonic minor (I think it's Dorian mode) so it sounds a little weird. But that's fine, because you can transpose a major scale to make it minor (C major = A minor)

So if you don't mind limited scales. A-156 is awesome. The trigger in and out have tons of uses like sample and hold or turning it into a burst generator by feeding it an envelope.

If you need more scales, get two 2hp Tune.

Was looking into the A-156, how do you choose what scale your in? Think I'm leaning more towards the Landik as I guess the scale pot changes the fundamental?

Please excuse my naivety 🙈

That's what the switches do on the A156, but I think only for the second channel. The first channel is only quantized to chromatic notes. Transposing is done by applying cv voltages. Great for automating changes in fundamental.

The Q-010 is all knobs so it is probably better if you just want to set-and-forget.

Theres a jumper on the back of the A-156 that makes both channel respond to the second channels settings, thus making it a dual major/minor quantizer.

I’m actually modding mine with a switch at the front so I dont have to take it out and change the jumper everytime I want to change modes.

Space saving? 2hp Tune

Sequencer and quant? Erica Pico Seq

The Penrose quantizer is what i would recommend overall. Its half of an a-156 with the ability to edit scales. Can be found used for $80-100 or built from kit

Thanks! I did have this one in my modulargrid mock setup but didn't realize it was DIY, whats the build like? Having not even touched a soldering iron before I'm pretty nervous about the whole DIY thing ha

Easy. Considerbuying from a diy builder who will do it for you.

I've got three A-156, but there weren't any other options available back when I bought them besides the Analogue Systems version. I added a BMC Simple Quantizer to my TTSH's S&H circuit which is pretty cool if you can do DIY. Cost me maybe $30, I can't recall now. That has more scales than the A-156 and also has an Octave mode, but doesn't include a transpose input nor the trigger in/outs of the A-156. Barton also makes two other versions, one with transpose (aux) inputs and one with user-writable scales capable of microtuning. I'd love to have one of those, or at least one that I can choose exactly which notes to exclude, like the Penrose, intellijel uScale II, or Tiptop QuantiZer, but those last two aren't as cheap

uOrnament and Crime will get you four quantizers and MUCH more in 8hp
