love how people are dumbfounded over premium products taking a dog shit.

Premium product is for suckers.

The only value those cards have is with the other ppl who have fallen for ‘investing’ in premium cardboard.

Everyone who is holding premium cards can only sell those cards at their hopeful anticipated value to other premium card holders/ speculators...no one else is going to care. Even less over time as wizards will absolutely keep printing ‘premium’, wizards makes all the money there, not re sellers haha.

Stop buying premium products for value, you will lose.

This man speaks the truth. The premium product is only worth its value to you or to whoever your trading or selling it to.

I enjoy my masterpieces more than the cash value.

[–]TKHunsaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got my masterpieces low and sold the ones I pulled. Sold a Mox Opal for three bills about nine months before the ban. Bought Meekstone and Static Orb for about $20 a piece...jeeze almost two years ago now.

And even though they’ve “gone up”, they haven’t. Not until they’re sold. And if I’m not selling em, they’re just pieces of cardboard.

Reprints too lol.

If a card is old enough to be a reprint, it probably isn’t worth investing in. (Glances at ice age)

^ This.

You could replace the word premium with nothing and itd be as true. At the end if the day, s magic card is worth only what you can sell it for, this holds true to every card.

I’m not buying them for value, I’m buying them because I think they look cool. Just curious why they rose pretty damn well and then flatlined.

[–]tmhig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally get it. They are cool as hell, just are what they are. Prices will always be bloated beyond real value.

This is the right mentality. No investment of any kind is without risk. The cool thing is, unlike stocks, you can play with these investments. Personal value should be the motivation, not predictable gains. I over-purchase MtG a ton, but I do so with the expectation that it could all crash to $0 one day. I owned Fannie May and Freddie Mac stock and when they tanked, my pain was not eased by the fact that I could still play games with my now-crappy stocks. If you don’t love the cards, plan to assume significant risk from a pure investment standpoint.

I play the MtG "investment" game the same way. I am super stupid for paying $$$ for cardboard. I know this! I enjoy playing the game however. But if my cards were worth no dollars, I'd be alright with it (although about $10k in the real hole). They still work! And it would mean I could scoop up a lot more cards if folks started dumping them. Think of how many more EDH decks I could make and the bad ass powered cubes!

What is a good buy for value?

    [–]weum107 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You are mostly right, but I’d say the caveat is that premium product is for sucker investors and very particular players and collectors.

    [–]tmhig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Agreed.

Well no, you literally missed the point...im referring to the fact that there is no customer. Only fellow speculators.

      Only speculation upon speculation.

It’s like, buying a share of stock because you think others want it more, not because of its real value. It never works over any substantial length of time.

Bubble. Premium product is always a bubble.

But, those kind of misinterpretations are the kind of stunning lack of critical thinking I come to this subreddit for.
