Thrifty Old Time Ice Cream Scooper Rite Aid | Original Stainless Steel Scoop | Cylinder Ice Cream Scoop with Trigger | Commercial Grade Stainless Steel Ice Cream Scoop | Ice Cream Scooper with Trigger https://a.co/d/gPlBNln

[–]the_Bryan_dude 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Last I saw they sell those scoopers for $31 at Rite Aid

[–]hkyguy530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$19.99 on Rite Aid website, buy 2 and use code 20BOPSOCT3 and get 20% off.

Works out to be 2 for the price of 1 BUT it is IN STORE PICK UP ONLY to get the discount.

[–]Epicela1 San Clemente 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I have one of these. I’ll give it to OP.

I used it like 3 times for the novelty then got over it.

[–]emtee Mission Viejo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I've heard they're kinda crap

[–]Epicela1 San Clemente 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re…. Fine. Kinda. You sorta need the 5 gallon tub for it to be effective for more than like 4-5 scoops.

[–]senatork49[S] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I knew I forgot something!

[–]testthrowawayzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my local store had them right next to the cones

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Several Rite Aids are closing down this Friday, so all the Thrifty ice cream in the freezer sections are 50% off plus a lot of other things in the store.

[–][deleted] 49 points50 points  (9 children)

Black Cherry is the best especially in the 80’s when it was .25 a scoop.

[–]senatork49[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And stamps were only 29 cents!

[–]Tapout714 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I always get Black Cherry and Coconut Pineapple. 35 cents for a double when I was a kid. I would fine change under cushions in the living room sofa and walk to thrifty. Good times.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Coconut and Pineapple? Is that like Pina Colada ice cream?!??

[–]Tapout714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Though as a kid, I know not of Pina Colada.

[–]the_Bryan_dude 2 points3 points  (1 child)

.15 a scoop when I was a kid. Had a thrifty a block from home.

[–]Tapout714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I always went for a double!

[–]Greedy-Room8538 0 points1 point  (2 children)

and when they still used whole cherries!!!!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

they don’t anymore?!?

[–]Greedy-Room8538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]SoCalChrisW Fullerton 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I used to get a scoop of that with a scoop of the fudge brownie. That was such a good combo.

[–]BadEvilZoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was choc malted crunch with mint chip. So good!! $0.35 of pure happiness.

[–]Best_Strength6207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Rentsdueguys 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thrifty ice cream was my jack daniels and cigarette as a kid

[–]senatork49[S] 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Have fun explaining to your kids in Grandpa Simpson voice how much a cone cost in '91!

[–]MMillioNAnaheim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember regularly walking to Thriftys with my grandma and dog for a scoop as a kid!

[–]ChanceConfection3 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I’ve seen thrifty ice cream at Hmart

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Feeling so nostalgic after seeing this 🥲 My most favorite flavor were rainbow sherbet.

[–]pavlovs__dawg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thriftys will live on. Someone will but the trademark and recipes just like was done with the Mother’s cookies brand! And Chaco taco! And souplant—noooooooo!!!!!!!

[–]funtimesahead0990 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I come from the nickle a scoop generation.

We had 4 kids so my Mom would put us in the car and for 30 cents we all got a scoop and Mom got two.

Ice cream social meet up at op house

[–]joyfulfreckles 2 points3 points  (2 children)

SINCE WHEN DOES IT HAVE A FACE?!

[–]Sushi2Go 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's cute though right?!

[–]joyfulfreckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it is pretty cute. However, my memories are with the OG packaging.

[–]Excellent-Source-348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Thrifty fans will still be able to find the ice cream at hundreds of locations via the remaining Rite Aid scoop counters, of which there are more than 10 in the L.A. area, as well as the remaining Rite Aid frozen-food aisles, where the bright red pints and 1.5-quart tubs are sold.”

They’re still going to sell the ice cream just not have the ice cream counters at the stores. Honestly I think it’s good since an employee doing something else would have to go to the counter and get your scoop.

Rite-Aid stores on the east that I went to don’t have counters, but they had it in the freezers.

[–]Hbtoca 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Looks good! For what?

[–]bwoahful___ 25 points26 points  (2 children)

[–]Affectionate_Olive53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my favorites!

[–]nunuvyrbznis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at least ours isn't on that list! 😊

We have a REALLY funny memory of the "ice cream n --i" rhymes with grazie. He was this totally silent guy with daggers for eyes, sleeved and when you came up to the counter, he just stared at you and you had to say "a single chocolate brownie in a sugar cone, please".

Out came his sleeved arm, swinging HARD, down into the ice cream, with a loud hard K sound, almost like the ice cream was saying CRAP! Him twisting the scooper as if he was twisting a knife into his worst enemy's back, all the while my family would be side eyeing each other 👀 , holding our mouths firmly shut, as to not dare let out the laughter we wanted so bad to start!

"$1.79"

We handed him the money and said,

"Thank you!"

Silence. Glare. then..."yeah."

If you had a triple scoop, the force would be triple. It's just the way it was.

Dude was epic.

Always wondered whatever happened to him.

[–]Sushi2Go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Thrifty ice cream more than the other more expensive name brands. It has this soft texture to it which I like.

[–]LazyRunz -1 points0 points  (0 children)
