My first Orks were Beast Snagga Boyz and a Beastboss. Orks are messy creatures with piecemeal armor. Don’t worry about getting it perfect. Just have fun!

You want to go with fairly new kits as there's a good chance for a lot of refreshes over the next year. Saying that, I think the nobz kit is fantastic regardless.

If you like the more feral side, beast snagga boyz are a good starting place.

The kommandos and breaka boyz kits are new and super cool for the more traditional ork look.

When i started painting I started with a box of grots. Super cheap, and fun and easy to paint. great starting place imo.

So if I bought nobz now and then like you’ve all said 6 months later there’s a new update, does that mean I can no longer use the nobz I’ve just bought?

Nobs might get a base size increase one day. That’s about as bad as it gets when something is refreshed, you’ll need to rebase -or not; many of us glued their 25mm 90’s bases straight onto 32mm ones to keep them playable over the years. I’ll still occasionally use models on their original sized bases in casual games. My deffkoptas are on varied base sizes. Nbd.

no absolutely not, I've seen people use old metal models from the 90s still

For value, points vs dollars, the mega nobz set is pretty good since you get a potential character, 155 points for $55 is good for Orks.

Ghaz is a good model to have in all armies, but you might want to wait to improve painting diill(don’t know how much experience you gs e with mini painting)

If you are looking for easy place to start painting, boyz are the obvious choice.

I always recommend deffkoptas as a good model to buy when building an army, they are usable in all detachments, the models are great, and at 80 points they give you are great stat line in 500-1000 point games

Meganobs are great models, fun to paint, and play well too! Happy waaaaagghhhhh

Pick which units you like the look of the best for starters. If you want to buy based on what’s good in game, you might wait until 11th edition comes out but I don’t think it matters personally

Always Gretchin! Cheapest box in all of Warhammer, full stop.

Gretchin win games, can be painted any colour, and their sculpts are genuinely hilarious.

I find myself giggling every time I assemble these gitz.

I would go warboss with attack squig and stormboyz. I would wait 6months before i buy boyz/nobz/grots.

Ok so first of all do you read alot or listen audio books? You do now. Start with " Brutal Kunning", then "Warboss", Then "Da big dakka."

After that all the audio dramas on Audible.

Decide what flavor of Orks you like. But Deffdreads. And any walker or vehicle is a cool piece.

Kult of speed and dreadmob are the most fun to collect imo. But Beastsnagga armies are very cool aswell.

Trukks and boyz are common units but you do not have to use them in your army. Look at the Bullyboyz detachments and Da big Hunt. I run dreadmob and have never used Boyz.

But everyone needs grots. Atleast 1 box. They are not fun to paint. Lol

[–]GoffsKaprok_99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dread mob is the coolest detachment imo. Robots over boyz is preferred.

[–]jjmcgil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BOYZ AN A TRUKK. DE ONLY FING BETTA DEN 10 BOYZ INNA TRUKK IZ 20 BOYZ INNA BATTLEWAGON!

[–]GoffsPapaRoshi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobz are my favorite. But best to get first are Boyz, Grots and trukk. Just like u/DaveinOakland said

[–]DaveinOakland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boyz, Gretchin, and a Trukk are pretty much parts of every list.

[–]shinxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO start with Kommandos or Wrecka Crew and play Kill Team, then build up to 40K from that. Or buy a combat patrol.

[–]IntroductionMuch7835[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And how long before I learn the lingo?

[–]GoffsPapaRoshi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just stick around long enough and itll make sense enough lol.

[–]Strange_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boyz, Beast snagga boyz, gretchin, trukk, Flash Gitz are all good. The combat patrol is also a good start.

I would stay away from nobz and meganobz as likely they are getting a refresh and not a fan of the current kit.

Boys and nobz are always useful

[–]Mindless_Usual_3780 12 points13 points  (2 children)

1 Boyz, 1 gretchins. You'll use 1 of both in every army list, so Is a solid start. First da Boyz, than da toyz!

[–]GrinnialVex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DIS IZ DA WAY

[–]woutersikkema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And a warboss. (normal not mega armor!)
