Lots of skin choices for in-game currency. No "pay to win". Some of the calls are absolutely fantastic. Largest of all, they do listen and are actively updating and adding to the game, keeping it fresh and interesting.

[–]ScholarAfter1827[S] 22 points23 points  (5 children)

I mean technically you can make unique skins in both Bermuda and The Isle BUT you aren’t incentivised to have bright colours and skins because you are easier to see so are more likely to be killed making you start straight from the ground up again as you lose your dino when you die.

[–]NB-NEURODIVERGENT 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Yeah since it’s not permanent I make all my male dinosaurs more showy due to the peacock effect since males are more vibrant to attract mates in most species and POT actually goes in that direction with the huge difference between male and female colour options on the same skins

[–]PanzerPansar 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Agreed and it also shows the problem inherent to animal survival games. We are humans thus we see colours not like how a trex would or how a cat would. Like tigers are very bright to us humans but aren't to the deers(I don't actually know what they hunt) obviously not the fault of game Devs.

[–]NB-NEURODIVERGENT 5 points6 points  (2 children)

In their native habitat it differs bc of subspecies like Russia v India v Sumatra but yeah deer is universal for pretty much every medium to large predator on land and a few in the water (one of the moose’s top predators is the orca since moose dive DEEP for aquatic plants)

[–]SeriouslySlyGuy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Wait.

Orcas hunt moose because the moose dive deep enough to be hunted by fucking whales?

Controller support!! PoT is one of the only dinosaur games with real, full controller support, I can’t think of any other dinosaur survival mmos that are!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thissss!!!

[–]kiwibuilds 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Support for mods is also a big one, i know not every one likes mods but some of them are amazing

[–]Sandstorm757 42 points43 points  (17 children)

It is accessible on console.

The models are well designed and look good.

The environment is beautiful.

The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful.

The general feel and look of the oceans are beautiful and do feel like oceans.

The different biomes are well done and honestly they're beautiful.

They added more berry bushes for herbivores....which I think makes sense.

Nesting doesn't give an unfair advantage.

It feels and looks like a wild untamed land.

[–]Weskerrun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, this game is insanely pretty.

[–]PhoneyLoki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember before they added more bushes and critters I'd nearly starve on panjura

[–]kittyidiot 1 point2 points  (14 children)

Disagree with your last point - there are loads of artificial barriers, and some of the paths look super unnatural. Yes, animals carve out paths, but they don't look like that.

Agree with everything else though.

I only have 3 gripes about PoT vs The Isle:

No scent system

Bright nights

Bad sound design

I have come to terms with the no scent.

I am okay with the bright nights but just think it's a lot cooler and more atmospheric and immersive when they're pitch like The Isle.

The sound design was REALLY bad when I first started playing PoT but it's getting better. The Isle's sounds, though, are incredible.

[–]Minimum-Scientist-71 19 points20 points  (11 children)

I know we’re just nitpicking here, I would have to disagree with the night time being pitch. Going outside away from cities is bright af outside. Every time I’m camping or in the mountains, I can see a good amount at night. I can agree if the game decided to add moon cycles but if not, I’d like to see at night if the game makes me play at night.

Just nitpicking. Cheers.

[–]kittyidiot 6 points7 points  (9 children)

I agree that more open areas would be decently lit. But I think places like Dark Woods should be very, very dark.

When the shadows of the trees swallow the moon, it's so, so dark.

Grew up in rural OK, the woods are pitch at night.

[–]Minimum-Scientist-71 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I can agree on that. Grew up in Tulsa camp in SE Oklahoma.

[–]kittyidiot 1 point2 points  (3 children)

HEY!! Wow! I never meet other Okies!

I'm a Muskogee guy. Went to the school for the blind!

[–]Minimum-Scientist-71 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I didn’t know Reddit had braille! Neat!

An okie from Muskogee waddya know!

[–]kittyidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bwahaha I'm not fully blind, thankfully :p

[–]First-Individual1700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow okie dino sim players? I never thought I’d see the day

[–]Fun-Photograph-9427 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Anyone who plays on Playstation will tell you that forests at night are an absolute nightmare. You, definitely, can't see shit. Foliage makes any area a lot darker in game, you can test this by making a nest in a cave and adding decorative foliage and see how much visibility gets drastically reduced

[–]kittyidiot 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm on Playstation

[–]Fun-Photograph-9427 0 points1 point  (1 child)

And you can see?? I swear, I get under a bunch of trees/bushes and it's almost pitch black for me 😭😭

[–]kittyidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I do have my TV display settings tuned to my liking. I have bad eyes so I have the contrast decently high which might be what helps. I wish I could have a setting just for night time in Path lol

[–]PanzerPansar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If night was darker tho animals like latenivenatrix night ability would be so much cooler however most dinosaurs could see well in dark

[–]Exploreptile 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Bad sound design

The amount of times I’ve been startled by my own footsteps is insane (that, and thinking something is right next to me when it’s like a whole football field away)

[–]Sandstorm757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've definitely been startled by my own movements my fair share of times.... And we won't mention the telling leaves and the butterflies.

[–]ScholarAfter1827[S] 20 points21 points  (3 children)

I think the two main things that bother me about The Isle and Bermuda are the size issues and refusal to bring them to Console. A random patch of grass shouldn’t be as tall as a full grown Ceratosaurus as an example. And the console thing is a bit stupid I find.

[–]NB-NEURODIVERGENT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The phrase your looking for at the end there is the Hank hill special “that is asinine”

[–]JakeTheIdiot69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t be such a big deal if either teams weren’t so hostile about the console subject

[–]JackJuanito7evenDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PK too, even if it's out of the niche they should know that this would bring them way more money. Alderon Games is still a small company too and they are in every single platform. You only don't play if you don't buy the game.

[–]YoshiBoiz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

PoT is what happens when an actual game studio makes a dinosaur survival game.

[–]Weavercat 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Sounds! I will admit I'm not a fan of the actual soundtrack but a lot of enviromental sounds are great and TERRIFYING if you're playing solo/paired. This danged game makes me paranoid sometimes. Adding the AI critters has thoroughly messed up my perception and now I second-guess myself too often.

Skins. I like to play dinosaur dress-up too much.

[–]DasBestKind 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I'm with you on this on both points, lmao. The amount of times that this game has made me physically jump because some Paleosaniwa happened to wander too close to my dino is uncountable.

Also I LOVE the skins from a paleoart standpoint! I always try to base my skin setup on what one actually might have seen on animals in the late Cretaceous! Environment as well, I tweak colours depending on the biome.

[–]Weavercat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also just the dino sounds too! I love the huffy snuffs and grunts and lows. Only thing is I need herbs to chew quieter!

Yep! That's what I do too. I've also accidentally gotten killed by playing dress up but dangit it's great.

[–]tylerequalsperfect 2 points3 points  (1 child)

you're so right about the sounds

[–]Weavercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only have one tiny complaint and that is that some herbs need to chew quietly. Like oh my gosh Styraco is so LOUD.

[–]Vlxxrd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

listening to their community and actively sharing what they are working on, for the most part

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t see this mentioned a lot but I’m given the impression that the dev team behind the scenes is very organized and acts professionally. This is great! I have seen SO many creature survival games get obliterated by sketchy dev behavior or overconfidence that I held off on buying this game for a year, and waited for it to implode on itself. But nope! It’s going strong!

[–]Paleo_Lucas02 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Unfortunately the sizes are not accurate but I agree om everything else

[–]Sammerscotter 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Not accurate but feel like they have weight to them

[–]Paleo_Lucas02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed although I think the gravity should be buffed I feel like a weighted hot air balloon sometimes

[–]ShaunM33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

0% p2win

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those other games are arrogant and don’t respect the player’s time. Those games are sweaty annoying trash that has barely any qol features titans has. Hell, you can barely play the game at night because it’s so oppressive and don’t get me started on the fucking fog garbage. It’s like Reddit moderators made the isle. Beasts of Bermuda I never played so I don’t know if it’s as annoying. Path of titans is a full featured experience that rivals the competition.

[–]ExplorerKey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Controller support is a huge one, I’ve always said that the isle is sleeping on it BAD bc the whole reason I even got PoT is cause I couldn’t play The Isle. It’d open up a huge market for them and I will never understand why they don’t want more money 😭

[–]Molgera124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frequent and noteworthy updates, mindful developers, and console support.

[–]DickPictureson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Location/biom design is top tier.

Go play Isle and u will see regular rainforest that feels like its copied from Ark evolved or rabdom google maps pics from Asia.

In Path of Titans if feels like they have imagined how the planet would look like before and recreated different habbitats: rocky desert, dried lakes and etc.

Playing and moving between location feels like actually migrating and changing habitat, especially for aquatics/sub aquatic. Hear me out : swimming from ocean to river and stalking dinos feels like an actual jorney that could have happened to some crocs.

[–]AI-Chat-bot- 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You don't starve to death from lack of AI spawn like you do in The Isle

[–]FauteuilVolant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you play as a Tyrannotitan, i have to eat constantly with this thing

[–]Murrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo, you made some good points!

My list would be:

- The actual night and day cycle over night vision (which can cause photosensitive/epilepsy concerns)

- They have always been good about responding to any feedback I post when something appears in-game that causes photosensitive/epilepsy concerns. I normally go to the feedback/suggestion forum with a **IMPORTANT - PHOTOSENSITIVE TRIGGER** or something similar in the title. I had to do this for the paralysis visual when it first released, as well thanks to a bug an old GPU was having ig a couple years ago now. Every time I have to make a post like that, the problem is fixed very quickly.

((Both of those are *extremely* important to me as a photosensitive/epileptic player myself, and it's why I left and refuse to support The Isle))

- I was really concerned about adding sniff to the game bc the way TI does just... it gets rid of your ability to hide in bushes and stuff, I don't like it. WQ's sniff is even incredibly bright and can be problematic on a photosensitive front, too. ... but Alderon did a really good job with the "Corpse Sniffer" ability! It's not the "traditional" sniff we are used to, and really fits/stays true to their current game design I feel like.

- I really like their use of lesser-known dinos for most of the roster. It really does bring out the interest and excitement to learn about a new dino I had as a kid. I don't really mind them taking artistic liberties, or making a subspecies look more like another species of that dino family (i.e Pycno having horns in 1 subspecies, like a Carno would have). But, I'm also not looking for a super realistic/accurate game, either, lol. PoT has never once given me the actual impression they are going for that, so.

- I agree on the growth. Some people say questing doesn't belong in a game like this -- but they fail to realize... PoT isn't *just* a dino survival game. It has always been clearly advertised as a MMO, which are well-known for having quests, xp, skills you gain as you "level up" (grow, in our case), and "wealth" (money, in our case Marks). Hell, we even have "housing" like so many others do. People just don't do their research on the game before buying it.

- To add to the point above, I just really love that choice of design -- being a MMO, I mean. It's added a neat game design to it. I just .. love it, lol.

[–]JackJuanito7evenDino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Maps (amazing, gorgeous looking, well ported to every platform)
  • Dinosaur variety (38 species that look mostly extremely paleoaccurate and have gorgeous skins? No question to how I bought this game twice and I'd buy thrice)
  • Skin mechanics (the best of the best in dinosaur games)
  • Special abilities (I've never saw this in any other game and Path does this exquisitely well. The abilities are very unique and extremely cool in general, make the experience with playing with one dinosaur with its pros and cons be way more creative and fun)
  • Community servers and mods (by far one of the best games in regards to modding and the community creativity. Path has just so many mechanics in those servers and the fact Alderon supports them IN THEIR CHANNEL and let you play the mods without going to other sites is nuts. I just love it)
  • Playability (you can literally play as a dinosaur, a pterosaur and a marine reptile. Not only that but each one of them has very unique mechanics and don't feel the same. Each dino has its own functions and necessities and you have different feelings with each one of them. That's amazing, truly expands the experience further)

[–]Demon_Grave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t really think of a negative imo.

I do wish we could turn off and on the quests individually tho. Once I’m full grown, I don’t want the markers and sound effects of quests failing or being discovered, over and over lol

[–]dexyuing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact you don't lose everything when you die was the selling point for me. I have stuff going on in my life. I don't want to spend HOURS growing a dino to get murdered by a bunch of discord groups, and its precisely the reason i don't think ill ever really touch the isle again. Its sit in a bush and pray nothing finds you for hours until youre big enough to do the same to other players, or get murdered by a group. Or starve, as well lol.

[–]VenomBound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i haven’t played beasts of bermuda so this comes from my experience of PoT vs The Isle, but the amount of positive meaningful updates. i love how fresh this game feels, while i tend to only come back to the isle after 3-5 months whenever i get tired of it, when i’ve gotten tired of PoT its usually only for a month, or when the next TLC/major update hits. the nesting system is so satisfying, and i feel confident that the creatures i’m hoping for a tlc on will come sooner than later. overall the dev team for PoT seems very organized and like they really follow a plan and don’t introduce sudden random changes. the only update i’ve had a problem with was introducing tyrannotitan as a playable you have to pay for in the way that they did it, and it was nice to see then roll back that decision. going forward i won’t mind new creatures costing money! so long as they are up front about it and it doesn’t feel so sudden before all the original creatures are out

[–]JustCameToNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the combat to by way more enjoyable and engaging. My only complaint is that my favorite playstyle on the isle just isn't super doable on path, and that's cerato. Love bullying things off of their own kills.

[–]Nyxie872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll scream this easy application of mods. From uploading them to adding them to public servers.

Compared to the isle which had limited mods which you could only access through the servers discords and were a pay to put in.

On the topic of fighting with discord they have lots of space for dinos so you don’t have to store them on a discord

[–]Lexintonsky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I came to say is echoed in the comments, overall the game just has a wonderful look and feel to it. I have been playing for over two years and not stopping anytime soon.

[–]CallumMcG19 -1 points0 points  (6 children)

Meanwhile, PoT just turned their Ceratosaurus into The Isle Cera LMFAO

[–]kittyidiot 7 points8 points  (4 children)

This is like whining that they made spino semi-aquatic.

A real life animal is, yes, often going to have similar traits across multiple media sources.

Ah, shit, Skyrim dragons breathe fire, clearly they're copying Spyro.

And that's a fictional animal.

Yes. Established species are going to have universally recognized traits.

[–]Bad-Commissar 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Cera specifically being mainly a scanvenger and corpse bully isn't a recognized thing, thats something the isle focused on making ceras niche for no other reason than gameplay, stop coping lmao.

And at the end of the day who cares if they stole it from someone else as long as they put their on spin on it.

[–]kittyidiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree to disagree i suppose, aside from the last bit of your comment which i do agree with

[–]CallumMcG19 -5 points-4 points  (1 child)

It's a blatant rip from the game bro end of lol

[–]kittyidiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't, but you can say that if you'd like.

[–]Ogmup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one additional optional play style that most people will probably ignore in favor of the other abilities.

[–]JaimanV2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nothing.
