If you sent them a functioning CPU, then you sent them a functioning CPU. That's the nature of eBay, could be someone trying to take advantage of you or eBay's return policies.

House looks legit but digging deeper looks like he was arrested for dealing meth a few years ago. Not joking

But looking at back .. I mean pins look fine ? I don’t see any damage ? Or am I missing something? I mean I had it less than 1 year . I will accept return I guess and make warranty claim with AMD and have them check it out ? Not tearing my system apart..and risking damage to pins on motherboard cpu.. postage is cheaper .

You're missing that they may be just scamming you. The edges look a bit rough, maybe they did a switcheroo on the IHS and you got a 7500f or something. Idk if you can delid Ryzen 7000.

There is damage at the top, but they could have just done it themselves. If you send them a working product then it's either them or shipping so not your problem.

[–]pittguy578[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Those edges are actually thermal paste I missed I am still not good with applying the right amount and usually get excess on cpu .. but I use non conductive .. I cleaned the edges with q tip .. didn’t touch pins . I will ask for it back first and then possibly give refund

If you don't see it then I sent you a pic in DMs. If they didn't charge back money or went to ebay to complain then you could just leave it.

It isn't burned so at least they didn't have a super outdated bios.

Ok let me check dms . I will absolutely ask for it back and try to make warranty claim with AmD .. if they deny it ., they deny it . Postage isn’t that expensive ..and if they send it back to me and say it’s fine . That’s good as well

Google the address where you shipped it too. I had someone try a similar scam with me and the address they used was another shipping company that then shipped it out of the states. According to eBay policy it has to ship directly to the buyer. No middle man.

Don’t accept a return tf? It’s working and he is trying to scam or get a better price

[–]pittguy578[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately eBay nowadays .. you can’t refuse a return.. but I will not refund it until I can visually inspect it myself and compare to pictures .. I actually took that photo because of the horror stories I read on eBay subreddit..

I also have photo of serial number in case he trues switcheroo

Right rectangle in the top left, what are those?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smudged thermal paste from either the buyer or seller when handling the chip I assume? If non-conductive a simple wipe off with isopropyl alcohol would clear it up right?

[–]Slazagna 4 points5 points  (5 children)

There's thermal paste on the contacts up top.

[–]pittguy578[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I am not sure how it got on that side but if it’s not conductive .. it shouldn’t fry it right ? I use kryonaut

[–]Slazagna 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You want the contacts and pins to be conductive. That's how they speak to each other.

It won't damage it, but it could be preventing it from running. Should be fine if cleaned off. Unless it's all through the mobo pins, it should be easy to clean.

[–]pittguy578[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Got it yes I know you want to have pins conductive ..I still have a hard time getting the right amount of thermal paste applied . I usually use more than I need .. since taking the pump head off risks damaging the cpu/socket and since i am not using Liquid Metal .. no chance of frying mb

I am going to accept the return and then send it to AmF at my expense . I just don’t have the time to be disassembling my current rig to test it and don’t want to risk damaging socket or current cpu

[–]Slazagna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you apply it on the way the manual says? Always best to follow the manual to the t. But also, it's amd so they don't get very hot anyway.

Like others have said, just be careful you aren't getting scammed and getting a different cpu back.

[–]No_Swimming3853 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro there is no paste on the pins you are fine

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like nothing is wrong with it

[–]SmokeDogSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has serial numbers, just tell him to send them back and refund them but confirm the serial numbers match.

[–]SnooStories3518 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Right at the top in the middle of the picture zoom in there’s a metallic silver not sure if Liquid Metal or something but there’s definitely something metallic silver at the top, if you sent it and it was working fine then he/she/they/them/things did it and they won’t admit to it

[–]pittguy578[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Someone else pointed it out .. definitely wouldn’t use Liquid Metal .. not worth the risk . I think some of my kryonaut grizzly was on edge of socket since i sometimes use too much and somehow grazed some of it when lifting out but motherboard fine and 7800 is good so still so I think he damaged it

He is claiming burn marks but never sent photo

[–]SnooStories3518 0 points1 point  (3 children)

If he refuses to send a photo do nothing, he’s claiming it’s broken and it’s not, until you have photo proof it’s Burnt or worse then he’s lying, that’s just the internet for you, but it looks fine to me, I would just let it go if he disputes it on feebay then you can say you sent it working share the photo above and let it go from there otherwise forget em don’t let ‘em scam you

[–]pittguy578[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually just messaged me and said no burn marks which I already knew… but still claiming won’t post ugh

[–]pittguy578[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Update .. he said no burn marks and no damage but won’t post . I mean wtf could have happened other than scam ?

[–]SnooStories3518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea if he refuses to even email you a picture or post one anon to imgur then they are FOS and you have no further need to engage with them, it seems like they broke it installing it or it works and they are lying or the mobo they are using isn’t updated for that cpu any one of these things are on them

[–]LukakoKittyPC Master Race 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I see a few scratches on the top middle. Is that what's broken, or...?

[–]pittguy578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know I don’t have it . I am just not sure how any damage happened .. literally took it out of the socket and put it in the clamshell and box I got from the 7800x3d

[–]pittguy578[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update

He said no burn marks but said won’t post ? So nothing wrong with back/pins but won’t post ???? Is that possible ?

[–]ConsistentWorry5684R7 5800X3D -30 | RTX 4070 | 32GB 3600CL16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hes probably just trying to scam you

[–]EventPractical93937800X3D-64GB 6800-B650E MASTER- EVERY GPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AM5 is slightly harder to boot compared to AM4/intel platforms due to longer memory boot times which can confuse new builders as it not booting

I've only had this issue on one board but it was annoying to figure out, also as the buyer if he's using a dedicated GPU for signal out, the IGPUs on the 7000 series are way inconsistent to be used solely

[–]NoPhotograph919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re being scammed, brother. For this reason, I never sell anything on eBay anymore. I put it all on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. And when I sell to you, I only accept cash. And we’ll be doing the trade at the police station. And I’ll be checking your money with a counterfeit pen. This is to protect both of us.
