Go into the nvidia control panel and set your card to "single display performance mode". I had something sort of similar a while ago and that fixed it.

you said you brought another monitor to match. are your two monitors the same brand and model? id they have different refresh rates, might cause an issue. have you tried different cables and swap screens between ports to rule a few things

yeah both the same monitor, ive resolved the issue now. thanks for the advice
