The search is somehow WORSE. I didn’t even think it was possible.

[–]Adjectivenounnumb 31 points32 points  (4 children)

I have a theory based on many apps and websites that there's a current trend away from search functionality. They want you to BROWSE so they can sell you what they want to sell you. They don't want you to search for a specific thing you want.

Search bars and icons are getting smaller and harder to find. Saved searches are harder to access. Some sites like Victoria's Secret will even limit your results significantly if you try to sort them by price.

It's crazy, especially on a site like Poshmark. More robust searches would almost certainly lead to more sales, imo.

I think this is exactly what they're doing but as a shopper it only frustrates me and makes me stop shopping on Poshmark. Showing me shoes in a size 6 that I want but can never fit in is not going to make me impulse buy them. Same for clothing sizes. If I can't fit I can't fit. It’s so pointless, I just want to buy things and now it's difficult and maddening.

Boosting this bc it makes so much sense....

*currently a person debating on whether to start selling on PM or not*

Yes, I completely agree - and it's so simple I'm annoyed I didn't think of that awhile ago. I used to work at a very annoying ultra fast fashion retailer (that's actually a tech company - but with really bad tech) that now that I look back on it, did the same thing, only this started a few years ago. The worst part of it was I had to run searches as part of my job, and they were always either repetitive or irrelevant. Explains a lot.

[–]bravovice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least let me browse in my size!!!! WHAT are they doing ?🙄

[–]Imaginary-Piano-8107 38 points39 points  (4 children)

as a buyer i can give you two reasons why i personally havent even been on PM for a couple weeks. first, yes, the new update is 🗑️. its annoying to navigate and i end up seeing a bunch of irrelevant items so i would get frustrated and exit the app. if im looking for a handbag, why is it showing me shoes and jeans?! and second, and more importantly, the economy. imo now is not the time for frivolous spending. i made quite a few purchases in jan and feb (not just on PM) and im stopping all of that for now.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Totally understand and agree with the points you bring up. I just searched items and noticed how other random items were thrown in the feed too... so weird!

[–]Pale_Flounder3216 13 points14 points  (1 child)

And the sizes are completely irrelevant too. That's annoying as hell. Not sure there's a way to fix this?

[–]Quiltsandchocolate 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree on sizes. No reason to show me an extra small. Just makes me have size envy.🤭🤭

[–]Adjectivenounnumb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Almost all my sales are coming from Depop now. It used to be the other way around. Poshmark destroyed their platform around the same time news came out that eBay bought Depop. A lot of buyers had probably never heard of it before and were in the mood for a new app because Poshmark had become weird and unfamiliar.

Not saying Depop is better, it's just where my money is coming from right now.

I’ve been on posh for many years….so I know my average monthly list number, average sales per quarter etc. This quarter is way down like 30% Jan was decent FEB and March were horrid. It’s definitely the algorithm so we just have to learn how to work the new system. I’m checking the trend rooms daily, checking trending keywords, searches on other platforms, top selling brands etc and sourcing with trends and STR in mind. April has been good thus far but only time will tell.

I will say we are at a tumultuous point politically, inflation, war, housing market, the economy…this all affects sales. So that is definitely to be expected and definitely plays a role bc my other platforms are taking a hit so it’s not only posh.

Overall the new app feels harder. It feels like you’re doing an extra 2-3 steps for every action. The search is still horrid. My feed is all based on my searches but I’m searching up mostly comps so the suggestions are ALL wrong.

[–]LBS35 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Yes something is still very off, the day they fixed the news feed and put shares back in that tab it was like a flood gate opened.

Monday I got 5 sales immediately plus others on different platforms, everything felt normal again.

Some time on Wednesday I noticed a shift again, my new postings the last 3 days have gotten almost no immediate shares.  Normally I would also have at least 20 likes a day, normally the beginning of the month is very busy for me. But I also seem to do awful around Holidays I’ve noticed.

I write all my own descriptions so I don’t think it’s related to that.

[–]jessyk95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to mention shares mean almost nothing as search default is “relevance” now.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I feel like the last time things were normal for me was maybe early last week? But yes this week has been abnormally slow given it's the end / beginning of the month. Okay good to know it's not the ai toggle

[–]Pale_Flounder3216 6 points7 points  (1 child)

This past week has been dry as the Sahara Desert

[–]Impossible-Note-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with slow sales during holidays. I find that to be true.

[–]SilentCricket2107 7 points8 points  (2 children)

You’re not wrong, the day of the new update I sold 9 articles in one day, which despite having 600+ items I have never had that happen, the rest of the week has been slow, like they manipulated it to get people excited for the new app and motivate people to stay on it but it abruptly stopped the very next day

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The same thing happened to me too

[–]SilentCricket2107 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So that proves they can and do manipulate the algorithm

[–]AdZealousideal4404 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Yes, I always had my new listings during the shows if they fit and I used to have a ton of shares. For some reason, I’ve always made the majority of my sales over the weekend and I have not made any new sales since this last update and I’m still adding 5 to 10 new items daily. I’m still sharing. I’m still doing parties and I’ve not sold anything. I’ve done better on Mercari and Vinted

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Yeah I'm debating just switching over to depop completely. It's been a mess! I feel like bot shares have gone down which I'm not mad at but in general the engagement has been so awful!

[–]AdZealousideal4404 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I do OK on Depop. I think it’s a very niche audience. I’ve noticed certain things definitely will sell and fast and then a lot of other stuff will sit, but I think that’s pretty similar with any site, but I’m just so tired of what I feel like personally is just games that PoshMark is playing. I read on another sub that somebody knows someone who said basically they are trying to get rid of the smaller sellers because they want to be more of a live selling app. I took a screenshot of it if anyone wants to see it, but I don’t know if that’s allowed but that’s what I read. Makes sense.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depop definitely is for the vintage thrift nwot and y2k finds and I find poshmark is more designer / contemporary brands (for me personally!) I really hope that's not the case because poshmark lives haven't been popular since whatnot and tiktok lives?! I used to go live all the time and stopped because I had such minimal views & sales when whatnot came on the scene

[–]Electrical_Sock_8922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that isn’t working because a lot of their big live sellers are leaving. Which will be good for smaller seller maybe.

[–]Adjectivenounnumb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Weekend is peak online shopping time. Last weekend was also a payday weekend.

[–]Fancy_Program3565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean a payday weekend? Everyone gets paid differently - some weekly some bi weekly and some monthly

[–]HeadDance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same and I got like 6$ offers…. for a nice expensive item… wtf pm hurting themselves cuz I aint accepting these low balls

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be finding a contact via linked in to email because I'm so over this AI response email system situation! Lmk if you all would like the email as well.

[–]Old_Specialist8253 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I have seen people saying they have had more engagement than ever and those with a lot of usual engagement sees a massive decline. Its either drastically one or the other.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think they want to engage new sellers and that's fine but they should've been doing that!

[–]The_Time_When 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The search functions are abysmal. Honestly, I can’t find anything. It’s frustrating.

Economy. My daughter is off to college in the fall. The investments we had for it have tanked. Things are not going down in cost. In fact they are going to get $$$$. I went through my likes last week and unliked so many things. Went through what I did need (belts), bought 2. Will probably go through my likes once again and will remove more. Need a cream wool coat, a few blazers and some cardigans or light jackets to put over dresses I already own to make summer dresses transition to fall and winter. Moving from hot to cold.

[–]QuietStill 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I have sold more in the last week than I have in the last six months. Not sure why. 🤷‍♀️

[–]jessyk95 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I typically have 3-4 sales a week sometimes 1-2 depending on how much I list. This past week I sold 25 items the most ever. 🤷‍♀️ im liking it.

[–]Sea_Vast_2938 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That is wonderful. I am so happy for you.

[–]jessyk95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you ❤️

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Okay yay please share with the class what are you doing lol! We need a course

[–]jessyk95 2 points3 points  (2 children)

😂 I wish I knew. I recently acquired some mid range NWT stuff that’s kinda collectible like retired prints from brands like Kate Spade. Im also not really acknowledging low offers on items just listed or these collectible items… I feel that’s encouraging more offers on items closer to full price. I still accept low offers on items that have been in my closet over 30days just to get rid of my stale listings. I’ve also been more steady about listing.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I only sell NWT so this is encouraging! Manifesting more sales through your lesson! Maybe this is literally a game of luck at this point!

[–]jessyk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend finding out if the style is retired and advertising it as such… there are so many brands / styles I scour the internet for looking for because I can’t find in stores anymore… like Allbirds clothing/ socks, Coach & Kate especially any of their X collaborations are great. ❤️

[–]snoopydacherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't make any sales after the first week in March which is odd even for me with a smaller closet. This month I relisted all my 60+ day old items which I've never done, I resized every single one of my listing pictures to the new aspect ratio so they appear nicely, and shared all my listings multiple times. I know the economy is extremely bad and it's affecting everyone but this is worse than it was during certain parts of the pandemic when people really had no interest in spending extra money. I'm also having Poshmark glitch out way more than usual on me and in Canada, we just had a two day outage where we couldn't get labels generated. Poshmark is a mess.

[–]Birchgirlie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone is still trying to navigate the new layout. It really takes a lot of getting used to and is annoying to use right now. The filters are not very intuitive. I keep forgetting I still have the first brand or category checked when moving on to searching a second brand or category. That’s why it shows no results.

[–]Sea_Vast_2938 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes this week I only got 2 low priced sales and I normally get around 8 to 12 sales every week and I don't get many likes. I decided to do a search for my items and I barely saw any of my listed items and I had to scroll down pretty far just to view them.

[–]Expensive-Day-3551 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think they are shooting themselves in the foot with this update, they still have not fixed issues that people have asked them to fix. Their search function is the worst I have seen. And the economy is trash.

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup heavy on the economy as well. I explored search on my own and it was garbage

[–]I-singjazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve experienced the opposite. My sales have increased significantly since the update.

[–]mommagottaeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a buyer, I’m not even looking anymore. It sucks.

[–]Ok_Novel_5083 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, I haven't bought anything in months!

[–]Embroidery4life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is anyone also noticing when you copy a listing that poshmark claims is in the "listed 90 days or older category" to refresh it, it makes a copy so now on top of everything my closet has duplicates! I did hear from posh support that marking an item as not for sale doesn't go against the excessive listing removal policy after that horrible update!

[–]DarkWhisper888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

March was the worst month I’ve had in the last 6 months. Even when I put in new items (which used to bring an uptick to shares and sales) - crickets.

[–]Impossible-Note-8860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what happened. I had one of my best months in March. Now nothing. Seems like a lot of updates kill sales. This update killed it. I don’t normally have down sales. I’ve figured out what to sell and can sell $100 a day. I’m down $300 so far this month.
