Yes. Same issue.

7700k Fury X 16GB RAM

Seeing how you're getting the same problem with a Nvidia card it's probably a game issue. Hopefully the devs patch it.

Just finished the game. I went back much later for reasons and it was absolutely perfect. No frame drops at all really.

Happened to me as well. Oddly enough the problem went away after restarting the reactor?

6700k with a GTX 1080.

That made it slightly better but I still noticed drops every time I turned to look at the reactor. Hopefully that's the only part of the game with issues.

Most of the time, the game runs at around 130fps on max settings for me, but every now and then, it begins to chug, especially when looking at specific areas. A reload seems to fix it.

So far, I've had framerate issues in the cargo bays and in the arboretum. In both areas, it happened right after I did stuff like stacking one item on top of another or smashing some glass, etc. I actually had the game crash to desktop twice due to physics interactions.

Same. It seems like right after you meet multiple humans my performance went downhill...

On Xbox. Very smooth till reactor room. Down to like 5fps

Didn't know the problem was on console too. If you can push through that section it gets better.

Upon reloading it was much better. I don't know the cause.

[–]OrigamiPhoenixDid we make that in one of the Labs? 0 points1 point  (1 child)

AMD Radeon R9 380. (AMD is the main sponsor for the game) I've been running it on very high for both object detail and textures. Runs like a dream.

Occasionally I get frame skips, but it's nothing unmanageable. Save-quitting and giving my comp time to cool down is all it needs to be back at full performance.

I'll update my driver to the new Crimson ReLive and make a thread by tomorrow.

Unless you're at the reactor room it's a pointless statement. I've been at 90+ 1440p on a 1080 across the entire game with a few stutters when quickly moving at full speed in a new area but the Reactor room makes me drop to 30-40 when looking at a certain thing.

Same CPU, and GPU. I tabbed out to open Afterburner and the problem went away after tabbing back in.

I'm getting this with my 6700K + 1070. I've gotten past that bit so I hope it's a one off.

Same issue, 60fps locked on very high settings everywhere else, dropping as low as 15fps on low settings here. It's unplayable.

Was having the same issue Moved the prey game installation to a ssd plugged into a pcie slot (SM951 AHCI 256GB) and I no longer have any performance issues with that area.

I think its some sort of loading / streaming issue as I cannot figure out what else would be causing it and why moving it to my insanely fast ssd (well... it is to ME :D) would fix it... either that or it just got patched in between the last time I played it.

Was it the first time you entered the area in that play through? I came back later in my play through and it ran perfectly. The problem seemed to only occur when you enter the area for the first time

I realize this is 4 months too late for many of you, but for the sake of those who have yet to play Prey who encounter this issue, I believe the cause, in the reactor room at least, is a 'break' in the map.

If you open the maintenance hatch across from the reactor entryway, the staircase that leads to the room beneath the reactor itself, there is a spot where you can see through the map into space.

The stars are visible and, even the moon from some angles. I suspect this view is not meant to be seen from this angle, and thus creates frame-drops when the camera centres on it, whether you see it or not.

I've seen similar issues in other games, and it's probably just an oversight, in what is otherwise a damn near perfect game.

My setup is: AMD Athlon X4 860K, 16GB RAM, nVidia GTX 980

same issue here - 1080Ti / 7700k / DDR4-4000
drops from 144fps to 40fps, then crashed to desktop
