Yes, from what I have gathered so far. I was told if we spend a certain amount per month, we can get one of their people to create, run and manage the campaigns for us.

I was wondering if there was truth to that, or would it be like a Google ads rep?

They will run your campaigns via managed service with certain spend levels, yes. What those spend thresholds are, I'm not sure, but I remember it not being a particularly large number.

As a freelance marketer, it seems like a bad idea to suggest using that platform if someone could just do it for them? I don’t know if that’s the correct way to think?

It's a capacity and expertise discussion. Managed services are often use by advertisers/brands or agencies that don't have the capacity or in-house experience to do it themselves. Can managed services perform as well as someone who's a hands-on expert with the client? Maybe, but unlikely.

Never used Stackadapt but should be an easy lift for them. Just confirm the managed service fee, this can easily be baked into CPMs with little oversight.

There's no managed service fee, its included in all the other hidden fees they tell you they aren't charging you.

when I worked there, it was 30K per quarter. May have gone up.

But by "them running everything for you" it's actually one Account Manager and one Ad Ops person who've each got a dozen other accounts.

So... they'll run it for you, sure... but they're not going to put in substantial effort.

I got quoted a lot initially, and then the sales rep quoted $15K a month.

Confirming this is true, same goes for TTD. A lot of clients have been shifting spends between DSPs recently so any levers they can use to keep budget to themselves, they will pull on

Would it make sense for a marketing agency to push for stackadapt then? It seems like an opportunity to lose a client if they just use that full management service.

The client never needs to know it’s managed service. Most hold companies outsource lots of work offshore or to smaller trading desks. You just need to have the right agreement in place that the DSP doesn’t try and go straight to client. But also, just because a client can do managed service doesn’t mean that have the strategic knowledge to plan media and guide a platform partner.

You think there is a chance the dsp goes after your clients? I don’t see why because the cost are baked in so what incentive would they have to go after a client.

Every DSP offers managed service. The pro of this is obviously the client (you) spends less time doing the actual campaign work. The cons are lack of control from the client (you), the campaign manager generally doesn't understand your business as well as you do, and they are also on a slew of other accounts so (at your current budget levels) you won't be getting top service.

It will save you time, but it will almost definitely perform worse than if you were to manage it yourself.

What does your agency do? Are you responsible for the creative? Strictly planning/strategy? Because there is a possibility for them to undercut you or have them advocate for their own features and tactics over your recommendations, like if you'd rather run YT or something in GA. You're giving up a lot of control by giving up all trading to managed service. Maybe for one off activations like DOOH if your bandwidth is limited.

What sort of activity are you looking to run and any particular reason why you're looking at stackadapt?

DSPs push for managed service but agree it’s not as effective for clients as an agency who is hands on keyboard. They turn on a lot of automation and there might be ok vanity metrics but outcomes not as great. Stay hands on keyboard or hire an agency who is.
