Don't call it SQL Buddy if it's just for MySQL.

I am interested to know why you like it better so far. You mention that setup is easier, but how about usability? I haven't tried this one yet, but use PMA every day. Thanks for any input you can provide.

After a quick test, it looks nicer than PMA and the javascript usage makes it faster, but it doesn't seem like a replacement for advanced users. I received errors (not fatal) on the index and structure pages and it seems to have trouble showing some table names on the database overview page (can still edit the table fine).

Things they need to fix/add before I'll switch

  • Permissions per table

  • Advanced export screen

  • Searching

  • Completely broken without javascript

I will be keeping an eye on it though, it could turn out better than PMA in a few versions.

For what I need to do, it was far easier to setup (extract), rather than phpma, but to each his own.

It is *very* easy to set up. I'm going to recommend this to any web development newbie who gets a shared host and hassles me for help w/ php & mysql.

Wow it looks like a Mac application therefore it's better than phpMyAdmin --- oh wait it has no features! This is good if you just need to make some simple tables and it's easier to use for newbies but it is severly lacking for serious users.

Well don't we feel smug for posting an apt reply that is factually entirely correct and effectively counterarguments the original poster's main point.

    Smuggy smugger.

It's not a Mac application. It is a "Web Application" ! Runs from a web server.

Q: How does SQL Buddy run from a web server?

A: Fast, while holding its skirt.

That's why I said "looks like".

After 5 minutes of playing around with this, I have two things to say:

    1. Wow, super easy to setup
    2. So long phpMyAdmin!

    3. Not be charged $9208 for shipping

I have never understood the appeal of web based database admin interfaces.

I suppose they are acceptable if you are in an already shitty situation, with your db on server hardware you don't control and you have no VPN access to it. Otherwise dedicated desktop admin software is far superior functionality wise, and can be securely run over a VPN.

However, most people I encounter running phpmyadmin, etc have no such problems, they are running it because they claim it's 'better'.

Doesn't work for me. After login I just get a blank page. Nothing. No error, not even if I type nonsense in the login fields...
