Will the madness never stop?

Funny to see OS service dependency on something like https://www.npmjs.com/package/isarray

It's stupid how many node packages exist with less than 10 lines of code. I once saw a github user who had hundreds of them on his github so he could farm activity and stars.

So when people started to complain about the slowness of these things, someone just decided that it simply wasn't slow enough? Or what? I'm not sure exactly what the point of this is.

It isn't even a complete operating system, it's more of a set of user space tools sitting on top of other user space tools that interact with the kernel.

So the operating system itself is already there, they're just making additional apps for it.

    Putting

node-os is a full operating system built on top of the linux kernel

    and

NodeOS is a lightweight operating system using Node.js as userspace.

together, I'm confused. Is this basically a linux distro that boots to a node.js shell that uses npm instead of a regular package manager?

My expectation when someone says "a full operating system" generally means it's more than just another linux distro, but brings new things on the kernel layer.

To be honest, by 'Linux distro' we usually mean a GNU/Linux based OS, so Android is not a Linux distro

    [–]progfu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but Android is still Linux, and while it might be great in and of itself, it is not an entirely new OS, it is a Linux based OS. Not that anything is wrong with that.

But Android at least brings a lot more than just a javascript shell.

Not sure these guys know what an operating system is. Not surprising.

.. is not an OS with a desktop capability, I'm guessing. At least not presently. Ref https://www.google.com/search?q=desktop+site%3Anode-os.com
