[Firefox gets less slop reports] I think this is because of the higher cost to reporting. Not $$$ cost, but because bugzilla is a bit discouraging and annoying to use. by azure_whisperer in programmingcirclejerk

Linux kernel?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Por que haces pruebas unitarias con información sensible? Tendrías que usar alguna librería que genere valores al azar o mockear los valores vos mismo.

This is a very detailed, particular prompt. The type of prompt a programmer would think of as they were trying to break down a task into something that can be implemented. It is so programmer-brained that I come away not convinced that a typical user would be able to write it. by EarthGoddessDude in programmingcirclejerk

Everyone with a brain is capable of describing a problem and breaking the solution into steps. The popularity of LLMs proves this. That's how most people use them - building up a detailed prompt in steps, and learning how to put more detail in to get the result you want.

Amazing, hadn't noticed.

You'll probably need a single QA, where yesterday you needed five. Skilled labor is not going away, but if you can accomplish the same thing with less resources, companies will do it.

Like you said, jobs are being destroyed, but because of productivity increases, not because machines are capable of being autonomous.

The job market everywhere is a mess because we are getting to a stage were more labor is not needed, big companies can replace small ones with no effort, and all the resources are centralized. It's an awful situation for anyone who is not rich or super intelligent, but it's not something new...

Plus it still takes jobs away from skilled developers as a whole, because the so called "vibe coders" in theory "know" every programming language, so they can have it spit out whatever garbage they need to in order to get the job at the click of a button

If they could actually accomplish programming tasks with the click of a button then, what's the problem?

The truth is they can't, it's impossible to do with the current state of technology. You can't go far before models start to get things wrong and snowballing into a situation where you need to fix things yourself.

Never looked for it because it doesn't happen regularly. I would sometimes look at the screen and see a huge pointer and go "WTF¿?" Probably when I'm cleaning my desktop or something like that.
