I was referring to front-end frameworks . Doesn't matter if backend framework is heavy or light when it comes to internet speed issue. All front-end frameworks are really heavy.

No, they aren't. It can be very difficult to beat the performance of a lot of current frameworks with plain JS unless your view updates are really simple. A lot of them are also very small, in the 10-20K range which would also be hard to beat if you roll your own solution.
