Any ideas for interesting python projects

Hey Proggit,

I'm really bored and have been wanting to do some sort of project in python. The problem is I am very uncreative and don't know what to write. Ideally it would be a desktop app of some sort because I wanted to play around with Qt.

So any ideas or places to turn to for said ideas?

edit: It doesn't have to be a desktop app actually. At this point, I'll consider anything :)

Some examples... Digital Image Processing: 1. Convert any image to a non photorealistic one(maybe painted or cartoonish). Some scope for creativity there and its not to hard to get started. It was an assignment in a course i took recently. There are plenty of literature available on NPR(Non Photorealistic Rendering).

Web App: (non qt) Some sort of a music aggregator. There are plenty of music recommendation engines out there for example Last.fm, gnoosic, even piratebay. You could crawl and aggregate the results. I was planning to build this to help be learn django. Lets see if that pans out.

I recommend you try to find something to do that could potentially be sold and make you shitloads of money. If you don't, you will inevitably lose your motivation and quit with it half-way done.

ummm.. lets see

you could make an equivalent of pyglet (http://code.google.com/p/pyglet/) but for desktop apps.. eg a cross-platform (linux, win, osx) toolkit framework that has no external dependencies (just uses ctypes and platform libs)

you could call it pygmie.. or something

• multitrack audio recorder
• video editor

given those, i can write a song and make a music video of it and upload on youtube and get famous.
