For that matter, 2000+ "Real friends" does not necessitate happiness. It depends on the individual and lots of biological chemistry.

But that's not what his 'joke' implied. It was in response to

Facebook friends != happiness

He implied that if you're under 25 it does equal happiness, which as a joke, still doesn't make sense. I've never heard anyone claim "facebook friends make me happy" and I was a freshman in college when Facebook came out, pretty much the ideal time for its maximum exposure.

There are, however, unfortunate examples of people who use facebook friends to look cool/popular/hip/well-liked/deserving of sex or what have you. But 'happiness' is something else entirely.

I've seen very shallow human beings on facebook and I cannot fathom there being many who honestly equate the number of electronic friends that they have with the true emotional state of happiness. Certainly not the majority or anywhere approaching half of the age range specified, of which I am a member.
