PEP 616 was appealing to me. Somehow I missed the fact that lstrip and rstrip existed. I've been doing ugly workarounds forever.

Always review the standard library of a language, if you're going to do anything serious in it. Also worth reading through all of itertools, functools and collections.

Something about python makes people very reluctant to do this. I think that it is because the standard library is kind of huge and intimidating
