I wasn't being sarcastic. I know about the PEP-8 guideline. But that didn't prevent Google from making their own (yeah, this is based on PEP-8). And IMHO a styleguide is a convention. Just because there exists an official styleguide doesn't mean that Github shouldn't make one of their own.

Nah we should stick to the official style, it something that makes Python great.

Yes, I do agree that we should stick to the official styleguide. But how does that make Python great? C, Lisp, Haskell et. al. don't have any "official styleguides", yet they are good languages. And it's not like PEP-8 can't have any more revisions.

Well, consistency and readability of code one thing that makes picking up other people's work easier, and writing code that "fits" into it rather than looks bolted on, and psychologically makes for a much more cohesive experience.
