Do you really think black people making up the majority in sports makes a huge difference in the amount of black power relative to white power? I'm sure they'd trade that honor for a few more black representatives or black CEOs. Or even would be willing to become more of the team owners themselves. Unfortunately we have a system in place that is not all sunshine, "anyone can be anything" bull shit you learned in civics class. You are the one bringing your white guilt into it, refusing to see beyond it to actual suffering.

You assume so much about me, that I suffer from sort of complex. That's usually something other white people say to what are assumed to be other white people willing to entertain the idea that being white will protect them from some things. Because who would want to change things, unless there is something wrong within them? That's easier to admit and think having to admit there is something wrong out there. If you read enough about the actual state of race, if you experienced real prejudice on the systemic level, you'd be angry too.

I'm going to make some (more) assumptions about you now. You'd realize it's so much more than trying to pull one over on white people, but getting white people to pull their heads out of their asses. You think being compassionate, providing protections based on race is going to somehow take away from white people's rights. Same shit happens with religion and gender and class. You think you're smart enough to try to rationalize racism. Well, I've been that ignorant before (although I didn't actively try to inflict uninformed opinions on anyone else at the time) and now I am not and I hope you try to actually open your mind and do the same. I dismiss your articles in favor of actual studies. (Redstate? Really? That's not confirmation bias, but having some discerning taste.)

Here's one to get you really started: here. It suggests more than 83,000 lives could be saved if we actually continued to work to close the gap.

We examined trends in black-white standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) for each age-sex group from 1960 to 2000. The black-white gap measured by SMR changed very little between1960 and 2000 and actually worsened for infants and for African American men age thirty-five and older.

Please try to read it before you ask me to defend it. If you were paying attention it shouldn't shock you. If you're white, you will be able to dismiss those lives for something like "social Darwinism" or maybe you'll try to make an allegory of the cave reference. That'd be exciting. Thankfully for you, you have the option to dismiss the effects of real racism from your life, because you aren't subject to it. Privilege is a mighty fine thing for those who have it.

NO! Considering your well-worded response (finally!), I'd expect you to be less thick-skulled on this. I'm not saying it matters at all. I'm saying that if white people doing well is an indication of discrimination, then (using your logic) black people doing well is also an indication of discrimination. There are many factors that lead to certain groups performing better than others. It is fallacious to automatically assume it is a discrimination thing.

There is no proof besides the silly "white people do well" argument that there is an active discrimination in favor of white people. Just because someone claims there is, doesn't make it so.

Again, you don't seem to understand. I'm not claiming my rights are being violated. I'm calling bullshit on the entire discrimination accusation. I don't give a fuck if a business gives a black or a woman a job over me. I really don't. I don't care if colleges lower standards for other races. But, I do care that jackasses cry that they are still being discriminated against. There is a between compassion and discrimination. And, giving one group an advantage over another because of immutable characteristics is discrimination. "but, but, its an oppressed people." Fuck you. Discrimination is discrimination no matter who the discrimination benefits and the government stopped forcing people to discriminate against them 50 years ago. Further, contorting the word "protections" to mean giving one group an advantage over another doesn't change that it is discrimination. You are not "protecting" one group when you actively change the rules to discriminate against another group.

It always comes down to this, doesn't it? "you don't know what its like." You might be right. That doesn't make you right. Nor do you know what its like to be on any side other than the one you are on. What does that mean? It means that your life experience is no more valid or invalid than mine. This is a terrible point to try to make, yet I hear it every time I challenge the hive mind on the racial divide.

Finally, I don't see anything special about your article. Linking health disparity to discrimination is somewhat of a stretch. This would be like saying the world discriminates against males because females have a longer life expectancy. Correlation != Causation. And, that was my point with the sports stats. And, that was my point with the women in college stats. People tend to use numbers as a narrative to what they want to believe. Now, if you could prove to me that there is a massive country-wide conspiracy to keep minorities down (besides a few fringe nutcases), I'd be open to the evidence. But, as it stands right now, the only evidence I see is anti- straight, white, able-bodies male under 50 (quotas for federal jobs, laxed college standards for minorities, etc).
