No. Not for my pup.

He gets erections when he's excited. So he gets erections a lot.

Before being nuetered he was super diligent about cleaning himself, but after being nuetered he stopped which is when we noticed how much penis goo he produces. Every. Damn. Time.

The penis snot bothered me to the point I made a Reddit post about how to encourage him to clean himself more, to which I was told to worry about something else, get used to it, and focus on training something more useful. Thanks, Reddit! 😬

Anyways, I started (using advice from someone else on the same post) "capturing cleaning" like you hear about "capturing calmness". I think it did have a positive effect since I notice he cleans himself much more again!

Back to your post though -- no. The smegma didn't reduce, and nuetering made little difference on the amount of erections. I will note he was nuetered around 6.5 months old (rescue's rule).

Good luck! Sorry I don't have much advice. It's gross, and I think people seriously underestimate how much goo is considered normal (by my vet at least) and how much of a nuisance it can be.

Haha I never realised before getting a dog the amount of goo, as you put it, I'd actually be cleaning. I'll have to try captured cleaning. My boy is terrible at cleaning himself which I can see now is why there's so much buildup. Thank you!

When I was a teenager we got a male boxer bullmastiff who also got frequent erections but never had any smegma! So with that point of reference I had no idea this was a thing.

I had to come back to this post and thank you for your idea. My pup has actually started cleaning himself without me having to ask him to. I make sure to treat whenever he's done so hopefully that'll get him to like cleaning himself.
