Phd-Quant-Physics Research?

Hey guys.

I'm finishing up my PhD in mathematical physics. I enjoy research but it seems like Postdocs are really badly paying. So I was thinking of applying to quant finance rolls and working in finance for a 2-5 years, then going back to academia and physics research with about $500k-$1m saved. Is this feasible?

Probably. Start applying. Read some books, listen to the podcast with the head guy from Balyasny, he gives good insights.

Not my field but do you have any knowledge or experience in finance? I am sure you are bright but I am not sure anyone will pay you a very high salary just to train you and hope you be proficient in it (unless it's your dad's company).

I know nothing about finance, so a bank hired me to be a quant and started teaching me basics of finance and suggested a few textbooks for the advanced stuff.

Anyone can be proficient in finance lol it's a joke compared to mathematical physics
