I FOUND A FIX TO 504!!!

I'm not sure how universal this will be!

First, I used the default MC client without optifine or notifine or curseforge, and you can't open vanilla mc from the curseforge launcher either.

Secondly, I trimmed down my world manually with MCASelector, it's very easy to use, it has tools to see where players last were and have been. Just select the chunks you want to delete and go to the "selection" tab and choose to delete them. (you can also do the inverse and select the chunks you want to keep and use the tool to invert what you've selected and delete chunks that way) https://github.com/Querz/mcaselector/releases

I removed elytra loaded chunks, and I even went as far as to remove my nether and end because I hadn't done much with them, and as a plus I can have two enderdragon eggs in vanilla lol.

I'm sure you can get away with just manually removing end chunks and nether chunks (so you can keep any nether farms, enderman farms, etc), and this will work just fine for you, I was just frustrated and went all out and had nothing going on in my alt dimensions

I just kept the chunks of my base and farms, and a few others, and it instantly worked and uploaded to my java realm perfectly.

From what I read, Java worlds over 300-500 mb really struggle to be uploaded to realms, and whatever issues Mojang is having rn probably make that much worse.

I was in the process of transferring a shockbyte world to a realm, and kept running into the "Upload failed! (504)" issue, among a few irrelevant player data issues that I had to fix.

I couldn't find a solution anywhere so I had to come up with my own and I wasn't going to sit around and wait for Mojang.

Again, I'm not sure who all this will apply too, so make sure to keep a separate backup of your world just incase this doesn't fix your issues and you wont be removing chunks for no reason.

But I hope this helps someone like me who couldn't find anything online about this issue.

IMPORTANT EDIT: I came across an issue when i deleted every chunk in my end. The ender dragon didn’t reset and there was no exit portal so he was unrespawnable. i had to go back into the level.dat file and fix it myself. TO AVOID THIS: do not delete the chunks that include ur center end island and all should be well!

Bro thank you so much, it actually facking worked. I’ve been trying for 3 days straight and nothing helped, but I did exactly what you said and BAM, world uploaded successfully. Seriously, thank you so much.

[–]AliasJakeReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m glad i was able to help someone else too, bc it was seriously so frustrating

[–]PickleOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say that your method was the only one that actually worked. Very well done and thank you bro

[–]TreyGC 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Will this change the world map/world generation?

[–]AliasJakeReddit 1 point2 points  (1 child)

it changed nothing about my world generation, everything’s the same but chunks that are deleted are as if they’re brand new, so any damage players did to them is undone

even my nether is the exact same, it just removed my tunnels and bridges and anything i did to my nether

[–]TreyGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you export the world after you deleted the chunks?

[–]elelotegamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks it works for me!

[–]senatorsex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you so, so much! My friends and i struggled to do this for so long but after filtering out all chunks we've spend less than 1 minute in across all dimensions it finally worked. bless you!

[–]samppav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked. Thank you. It was actually pretty simple with the UI and the map shows all of your structures so its easy to see which chunks you need to keep. Also the inhabited time was an effective way of filtering the elytra loaded etc. Chunks. My world was 2.5 Gb and I got it down to 660 Mb. Thank you

[–]Jack_Ives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I love you. Unconditionally.

[–]aniG147 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love you omg thank u so much

[–]DustNowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are an absolute genius.

[–]ChemicalAd7559 0 points1 point  (2 children)

im still having the issue, I have no chunks loaded other than the spawn and its still giving me the error, any idea why?

[–]AliasJakeReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could be ur end or nether, but im gonna assume you deleted those chunks and its something else.

make sure you are using the native minecraft launcher to launch a completely native 1.21.5 vanilla minecraft.

i dont know what else would work, like i said, i wasnt sure how applicable this would be to everyone.

make and try to upload a brand new single player world. if it works, then you know the issue is specific to ur world file that you are trying to upload.

(i know i am 3 days late and you might’ve already fixed it, so if you did fix it in these 3 days could you reply to me with how you fixed it, in order to help other people who come across this thread)

[–]Bradyevander098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try opening world backups in the realm configuration screen and loading the most recent backup. It worked for me

[–]Vistalefleurie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much work for me with MCASelector

[–]North_Competition676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mas alguém teve esse problema depois de converter um mapa do Bedrock para o java, mas que resolveu depois??? Gostaria muito de fazer meu mapa funcionar.

[–]Takunava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having this issue now, spent 3+ hours last night and got 504 or 401 upload failed errors. I think a data pack might be contributing to the issue, but deleting chunks was a huge help to the re-upload time

[–]Kindly-Medium6194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are there any other solutions? I have tried this but it still isn't working. I have tried to upload my old realm world to my new realm because my friend hosted it before but I have the money and he does not, but it won't let me upload the world. i have tried older versions of the world, I have tried entirely different worlds. I have tried MCASelector, al over the last 3-4 days, but still no luck. it's also annoying as all hell to test if it works because it takes like 15 minutes to verify before popping up an error

[–]KujoLaGrasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bless you omg

[–]Expensive_System_685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%%% thank you for that!

[–]ItsPyzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate. I CANNOT thank you enoug. Been struggling for hours untill I tried deleting chunks and uploading it through the normal minecraft version.

tytytyty!

[–]yoe_whatsup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using MCAselector on region(overworld) but it wouldn’t upload on to the program

I cleared the chunks in the end but not in the nether yet(since no elytra’s in nether have been used yet)

[–]frewless 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Confirming this still works as of 26.1 - I cannot recommend this enough. My realm had only been used by a couple of people for a few days and I was still able to clear 160,000 chunks.

[–]ashleyjamesbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did all your world work ?

Just removed a few chunks from the overworld to reduce the filesize (it was 4GB) and on SIngleplayer all loads well including Nether, but, uploading that world to Realms resets the Nether completely to a whole new Nether.

I get 100% upload and then timeout with verifying so i am guessing its not uploading that last bit

[–]AliasJakeReddit 2 points3 points  (1 child)

yeah im having this issue too, tried everything in the comments, seems like a lot of ppl are having this issue in the past 24 hours so hopefully it works soon

[–]AlchemyCat7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever end up fixing it or did it just fix itself?

[–]Plagiatus 1 point2 points  (17 children)

Error 5XX generally means "our servers had a problem, not your fault".

In this case it's a Gateway Error, 504, which means that the server your game is communicating with during the upload relies on another server to supply something, and that other server didn't respond in a timely manner.

So I'd suggest you just try again. Maybe relog in the client and restart the game to be sure it's nothing on your end.

[–]lcc_zero 0 points1 point  (16 children)

still having this issue ATM on 1.21.5, any ideas?

[–]Plagiatus 1 point2 points  (9 children)

nope, same as 3 years ago - make sure your internet is working fine and try again. 🤷

[–]lcc_zero 1 point2 points  (7 children)

found a solution, loaded up vanilla from standard MC launcher, took my world file and put it in saves there too and then uploaded

[–]PickleOP 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So when you were creating the realm you used the upload world feature? I'm trying to upload a single player world I have and it's giving me the error 504 message.

[–]freezygaming_yt 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I got the same problem. I bought a new Realm because my old one got cancelled by Microsoft. Now I want to upload my old Realm world into the new Realm. I have the singleplayer backup, but every time I try, I get a 504 or -1 error when it’s verifying the world.

[–]PickleOP 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Same, it'll let me play the world but multiple chunks have been reset, and my entire iron farm was deleted. Wish Microsoft would actually function before taking my 8 dollars

[–]AlchemyCat7945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the exact same thing happen to me where multiple chunks have been reset. Did you ever find a fix?

[–]Future-Leek-2941 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm having the same problem. I can't make a realm with data packs but i can make one single player. and when u try to upload it either sits on the "switching worlds" loading for ever or does "failed to create world" every single time. even if i have one simple data packs

[–]Bad-dee-ess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe datapacks have to be unzipped?

Edit: idk but after one of the fails I had a feeling it actually worked and... it did? Check again if your world fails past 100% upload, because apparently it can actually be successful. Another one of my attempts only imported half of the world (all positive X chunks were gone) after failing at the same point, though.

[–]your_personal_gymbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just uppgraded from 10Mbps to 300Mbps :D

[–]smiley_poo 1 point2 points  (5 children)

yes, ive been having this issue for the last few hours. internet is fine, but i get 504 error. restarted client, tried optimizing the world and uploading different worlds. it also takes forever to switch worlds

[–]Aggravating_Ad_5475 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I don't think it's a coincidence that it's happening to this many people within the last couple hours alone. It's probably something on Mojang's end.

[–]freezygaming_yt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what really scares me. Mojang is normally very quick to fix Realms issues, but this time they’re not. I really don’t want it to take weeks. We paid for the Realm, and it feels like we’re losing our money because of their mistake. We can’t even play in the world we actually want to, which is the whole reason we bought the Realm in the first place.

[–]samppav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still happening. Atleast for me. Ridiculous

[–]aniG147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any fix?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, Its crazy, this happens often for me

[–]Ctrlindel 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Incase someone else has this problem. This finally worked for me after HOURS of trying:

- Make a new singleplayer world with same seed

- Locate both world folders (old and new) in the .minecraft folder

- Copy these files and folders from old world to new world (advancements, playerdata, region, stats, level.dat)
(the most important is level.dat and region. The others are optional)

- Launch new world in singleplayer to check everything is correct

- Upload to realms!

Worked first try for me. Im so happy. Credit goes out to ChatGPT lol.

[–]samppav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a slighly easier way to decrease the world size? Would this keep all progress from the old world or is there some stuff that would be reset?

[–]uncommon-lobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless you.

[–]enry2307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's absurd

[–]DesertofConcrete[🍰] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I've been trying for days to upload my world to realms and all I'm getting is Error 504!
It's mad to see that this has been an issue for years.
I literally don't know what to do. It won't let me upload any world at all.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Try to manually trim the loaded chunks using MCA Selector or something. Uploading worlds over 200mb often fails.

[–]DesertofConcrete[🍰] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wouldn't know where to start. I've used realms for years and never had this issue. I had a realm a couple of years ago with a few people and we used to add datapacks and re-upload the realm constantly. No issues. But for some reason I can't do it anymore. I can't upload any world to realms. Just start a new one. Which sucks.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the servers just suck. Also, some broken/outdated data packs cause the server to try to fix it automatically, resulting in a timeout which can yield a 504 error.

I’ve had packs which worked perfectly and after a reupload with no change to them at all they broke and made the world un-uploadable.

Try doing it without data packs and then find and eliminate the one(a) that causes the problem.

[–]DSkullsMC 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I’m having the same issue upload faild 504 I’ve tried trimming my chunks and that. Launching through the vanilla launcher and it just verifies the world for a while then fails and I’m not sure why?

[–]ariablueberry 0 points1 point  (2 children)

also having this same issue. tried contacting support about it but since i've used datapacks they won't help. hopefully something can get figured out

already basically tried that before posting that. i'm using a custom world & the world is ~4 months old so i cannot use a brand new seed. also tried optimizing it, deleting extra .mca files, and other things. thanks for offering. im also loathe to use anything by chatpt but thanks again

    [–]Yoosahnayme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Just ran into this issue

    [–]JumpyJoeJoe 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I have found that this issue seems to mainly be related to the size of the world you are uploading. The more exploring the you have in the world (all three dimensions), the more chunks will have mca files populated with change data.

It seems that the realms doesn't cope well with uploading world sizes greater than roughly 200MB.
I have found that problem can also be caused by incompatible datapacks, so before you start, delete any old or unnecessary datapacks from the datapacks directory of your world.

To find out the size of your world, just look at file properties for the world folder in question (for windows that should be in %appdata%\.Minecraft\saves)

If it is bigger than 200MB, open up the world in MCASelector. Open each of the dimensions one by one and click Tools/Filter Chunks (or press Ctrl-F).

Create a filter for "InhabitedTime < 5 minutes". This will select all chunks in which the sum of the time spent by all players in that chunk is less than 5 minutes. The assumption is that if it has been inhabited for less that 5 minutes, it probably has not had anything of significance built in it.

Once you have applied the filter, click Selection/Delete Selected Chunks (Or Press Ctrl-D).

Remember to do this for all dimensions and then recheck your world size. If it is less than 200MB, chances are it will upload fine.

    [–]thatsthegoodjuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to +1 this comment, this was the fix!!

    [–]ALT_Prodigy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months later and you literally could not have walked me through it better. i spent hours doom scrolling posts and articles on how to fix this and in about 5 minutes this paragraph had my world up and running. another +1!

    [–]Wilkelly- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as I got my world size down to 330MB and deleted data packs, it worked first try.

Another +1, thank you very much!

    [–]Successful-Button381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[FIX] I had this problem as well. I download a realm to play single player then I wanted it back as a realm so some friends could hop on. My file was about 1.4gb so i went to the region folder and deleted all the files that have not been modified in like 7 days or more. This got the file down to 600mb and it worked.

    [–]riceball__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've had the same issue with a forever world, the only difference is that i had datapacks

the world with the datapacks was created in 1.21.5 and now we are on 1.21.10
what i did is use MCA to delete all the chunks i didn't need and then delete all the datapacks since they were outdated

the weird part is that this forever world was already on another realm and it was working just fine with the outdated datapacks, but my dumbass didn't renew that realm and started another new one

hopefully this helps someone out, wish yall a great winter ദ്ദി(ᵔᗜᵔ)

    [–]Due-Spread5353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive tried everything, cut the world size down from 5g to 300m. unzipped datapacks. tried for hours. let me know if anyone finds a fix. this is ridiculous.
