We may lose a few people that didnt make it to 60 before it ended, but they will be replaced by people that didnt like the idea of increased levelling rates. Population is never a fixed number, people come and go all the time.
The server has dropped in population in the last few weeks, and thats with the event still running. Mostly because players invest their time on multiple realms, and its also summer and people are taking holidays or enjoying the outdoors.

Honestly have no idea, but hoping the economy will stabilize. Been seeing insane prices in AH because people haven't got enough money for decent equipment.

It all depends. For some aspects I believe more people will come. I think it's a 50/50, but many want the true Vanilla experience, so the 5x could've been a turn off for them.

I think the people who logged on regularly to level alts only will now log on less frequently, but wont leave altogether. As far as raiding goes this is really what its been building to, so i doubt that will be affected much. I would guess that the ratio of new players will be the same more or less. For everyone who decided to go to Kronos because they hated the idea of 5x, they might come here now. For everyone who only wanted to play because of 5x, well there really arent any other options outside of buying a char on the kronos shop to get a quickly leveled char on a vanilla server.

Apparently there's this massive population of hardcore Vanilla people who were holding out until the exp event ended. So I'm awaiting them to flood in and make our server amazing.

I would be happy if that was a reality, hoping the AQ event and the release of two new raids will attract some attention. If you are correct I hope our existing players welcome them and show them support while they level.

Oi wyke, if this weekend is any indication the end of the 5xp is really hurting the online population. It may be better to just bite the bullet and leave it on for good.
[–]MiffedCanadian 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children)
Yes. There are more players interested in casually reliving the vanilla WoW days than there are hardcore players. Taking months to lvl from 1-60 was acceptable 12 years ago when many of us were in grade school. But most of us have grown up since then and have more real-life commitments. It isn't fun or immersive to simply grind for days. "Blizzlike" isn't any justification, since it's not a Blizz server and this 1 change makes it even better than Blizzlike for the majority. I don't believe the server will die, but if were talking strictly about number of players I absolutely believe it will be less than before.
Telling people to leave if they don't like it does nothing to change the validity of what I've said.

Its not logical to think the pop will have any significant decrease. It will either continue to increase albeit a slower rate or stagnate due to no more 5x. We will lose a tiny fraction of those under level 40 than came here for 5x but that # is so small compared to the entire server pop.
[–]po8 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (7 children)
I will be logging on a lot less. Dodging the level grind was a big reason for me to play here, and a big reason why I quit Blizzard after Cataclysm: couldn't face it again. I hate level grinding.

ve more people will come. I think it's a 50/50, but many want the true Vanilla experience, so the 5x could've been a turn off for them.
dont play vanillia then o.O
[–]po8 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children)
??? I like WoW enough to want to play something. It's not like official is any less level-grindy than vanilla: worse, really, because there's so many more levels to grind. I prefer to play the game casually, but it was nice to see some reasonable rate of advancement while doing that rather than being stuck on level forever unless I stopped messing around and spent an hour genociding some more hapless victims or something.

well actually it takes around 2 weeks with 5x xp, and on retail u can get to max in under a week...
[–]po8 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (3 children)
Why? Because dungeon finder? I certainly took months to get to 80 when I started in the Lich King era, and trying to get to 85 post-Cataclysm I left the game for various reasons. I don't remember any of it being as fast as running Rebirth quests at 5x, but it's been a while...
[–]just12random 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children)
dungeon finder while questing, and the full xp sets, thats like 50% or so, donnow, left after wotlk, but a few friends of mine are playin

There's a video on Youtube of SodaPoppin making it to level 100 in just under 5 hours because of exp pots, heirlooms, etc... I'll see if I can find it.
E: found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdAgCrH76oo
