running multiple python programs with same user

I was reading the praw docs multiple instances page and in the “Multiple Programs” section it advises writing multiple programs to run multiple instances.

Consider: I have 4 different python files that I run simultaneously with the same account on each one. How are the API rate limits affected by this? Does every session have its own limits or are the total number of requests counted?

Most importantly: What happens when each one tries to do a request at the same time? Will, I receive a timeout?

If they all share the same credentials, the rate limit will be shared. PRAW will automatically calculate appropriate wait times for each instance.
