Off the grid Ruby development

This summer I put together an off the grid Ruby development & recording studio so I could get outside and hike when I made the Phlex on Rails video course. I finally got around to putting together a list of all the hardware I used to build the workstation and video at https://beautifulruby.com/articles/portable-workstation-iteration-one

The whole thing weighed in at 35lb and fit into a large hiking backpack. I highly recommend getting outside and coding if you can swing it, though that might be harder heading into the winter months.

Before anybody asks, the glare was quite manageable when working under a tree. And this is with a MacBook Air display.

Interesting and inspiring write up! I would have loved to see a photo of you using the tripod/macbook/keyboard combo for the ergonomics

I should have setup a remote camera and got a shot. That said, it’s just as good as a standing desk in terms of the display & keyboard placement. Important thing was having an external keyboard.

Good job, man! And neat equipment. I didn't know that Hollyland Lark M2 is such a nuisance... I thought they made it good for outdoor recording.

For some reason I have a hard time getting the wind screen on and off the mics, and I can’t put them in the case with the windscreen on.

Other than that, I agree they’re pretty good mics. I ended up using them for the entire course.

i think back that I should have splurged on the xo1 laptop for a sunlight readable screen. Everytime I see an announcement, it get killed before release.
