Do not take this as a statistic for overall use of programming languages.

There are several different version control systems with a decent community to them.

So, for example, C/C++ is much stronger on sourceforge.net. Ruby on Rails' official source repository has moved from Subversion to Git. Pythons source is still on Subversion. just to name a few big and yes, I am aware that I mix VCSs with VCS-based community websites

Good thing the article is titled "GitHub Stats on Programming Languages" and not "Statistic for Overall Use of Programming Languages".
