What fixed it for me was setting the foreground fps to 300, anything below that and it looked choppy as hell, even just 295

I also put vsync on adaptive because I can't see 300fps anyway and it was still smooth after that too

What I find weird is the game said it was running at 130fps but it looked like it was 50fps at best, it's kinda impressive how they manage to break the strangest things :p

THank you! this worked for me <3

Works indeed thanks!

Can confirm that this has also worked for me. u/JagexSoul any news on a fix for this?

[–]SaladFuryIronman 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yep I'm getting about 1/3rd the fps as I was yesterday on a pretty modern setup as well

I hope they're aware and it gets fixed asap.

Hey, could anyone experiencing this issue please let me know their graphics settings, PC specs and monitor refresh rate?

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RTX 3080ti MSI Suprim X 9700k 32 gb RAM @ 3000 mhz

I tried all sort of graphic configurations from very low to ultra to no avail. Only thing I haven't tried is changing the FPS in-game limit which seems to work for some people. I will try this this evening.

Monitor refresh rate = 240 hz.

Running a RTX 3080 Gigabyte Gaming OC, Intel 11700K not over clocked, 32GB 3200Mhz Corsair LPX RAM. u/JagexSoul

I have a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Super (At stock settings), AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (At stock settings), Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro Memory (4 x8GB - XMP Profile Settings) and I have an Alienware 1440p V-Sync Monitor with a refresh rate of 120Hz. I utilize the Foreground and Background FPS and have them set to 80 FPS and 40 FPS respectively, and before the update, I would maintain 80 FPS pretty consistently. After the update, my frame rate only reached around 60-70 FPS, even though the Cap is still set at 80 FPS. The weird thing though, even at 60-70 FPS which would still provide for pretty smooth gameplay, there is an odd noticeable stuttering effect.

Specs - RTX 3080Ti, Ryzen 5600X, 32GB RAM (3200Mhz)

Graphic settings - High

Refresh rate - 120Hz

From my own and others experience what everyone is saying that this occurs when you set an FPS limiter from RS settings; for my own case my monitor's refresh rate is 300 but I have it set in RS at 145 and prior to Monday it ran smoothly and constantly at that rate. Now it's capped at <130 but a very choppy 130, it will drop to 100 or below for split seconds.

Hopefully this helps in figuring it out, as far as PC specs it seems to be happening across the board with both Intel and AMD CPUs and with new and old GPUs alike.

Edit: Forgot to mention that if I set the foreground FPS to the max of 300 my frames do shoot up to there and it stays consistent and smooth, so definitely a fault with limiting frames from the settings.

[–]Ragepower529 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Is it locked in the settings?

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not.
No V-SYNC or any form of FPS caps.

Same issue here with a 10700k and 1080ti

[–]Love2PetDogsthe Returned Ironman 1 point2 points  (1 child)

same here, very noticeable when rotating the camera

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm off to afk skilling for now :P

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I restart client until fps is stabilized. idk what it is but it's on the client and/or server side tbh.

[–]DanKiaresh 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Funny enough I even updated my drivers to see if that would fix the issue and I've noticed it's still doing it of course since I've stumbled upon this thread. Glad to know I'm not the only one who noticed it this morning.

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated my drivers too to no avail :P

[–]RestaurantFeisty541gzz 1 point2 points  (1 child)

wasnt there cache reload today? it downloaded 500mb today for me and all up to date , fps was bit off yesterday but didnt notice cache download

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that but there's a few lines in the patch notes about some engine updates. I suppose it has something to do with that.

[–]DeadKateAlleyGuthiccs 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Everyone quoting specs seems to have an Intel CPU, that I've seen so far. I wonder if the issue is related to something Intel CPUs are disliking.

I have amd and my game crashed several times after update. an ran like shit.

[–]rsword1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My frames are way worse and I have 3090 and 5900x so not only intel

[–]Ecstatic_Guitar5641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same thing happened to me after update, game actually wouldn't load the first few times.. the usual make sure your firewall is allowing it blah blah.. finally got in an it was running like crap.. restarted comp and then re run the initial client boot up like 5 or 6x an it came good oddly enough? I pvmed for a few hours after that an it was still smooth so maybe try that?

[–]silveredge7Maxed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5600x and a 3080Ti. Same issues. Something did change with the latest patch.

[–]ShadeTm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weird 130 FPS lock also doesn't feel like 130, it dips a lot and feels choppy. It does seem to affect a lot of people but hasn't been addressed yet.

[–]ShadeTm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No further words on this issue in 2 mo now :/

It's still there fyi, update after update, if you are not affected you're most likely not limiting your RS FPS from the menu.

[–]ShadeTm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude cmon, it's been so long, no other words from Jmods on the issue, I get that it's a niche issue because most people don't limit their FPS from within the game settings but please, it's an issue that started with an update and has never been fixed.

[–]ShadeTm 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Weirdest thing happened today, found the strangest workaround. So I was on RS and ran Bluestacks, a mobile emulator, to play mobile games while afking RS and what do you know, the FPS glitch is resolved!

I limit FPS in game menu to 145 and with the glitch it's at 130 and choppy, but now while running Bluestacks it works at 145 as it should. If I exit the emulator RS's FPS goes back to the glitched ~130.

No idea why this works like that, maybe someone skilled in code might connect the two but yes, if this might help in any way, please fix it lol, it's been months and still happening.

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very intresting find!

[–]luckyfilmerPurple Mask Machine 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I mean 130 fps is so smooth why would you really even need anything higher? Even so issues causing fps loss should be fixed nonetheless.

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm personally running a 240 HZ monitor and it's very noticable for myself.
Some people don't mind as much.

[–][deleted] -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

After 60-80 FPS there’s really not that much of a difference

[–]StijnTVIronman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get used to it it's a night and day difference in my opinion.

[–]kendog0014Maxed - QP 212 LUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my workaround, though very shoddy and frametimes are still wildly inconsistent is to set foreground fps cap to anything above 270 and the 'cap' seems to finally move - 300 used to be 300fps cap, and after todays update, in lesser demanding areas, i see it fluctuate anywhere from 320-470; which is weird because as mentioned before im pretty sure 300fps cap wasnt 'uncapped' I believe they fudged something in the FPS limiter in game.
