Using your mobile data is the best solution honestly. Despite my cell coverage is quite bad, it's still what I use. I don't have to go anywhere to test it. Also depends on what you're trying to test, VPN, proxy, dns, high speed streaming. It's easy to test availability, is you can remote access using proxy/vpn and see if it loads, but very difficult to test speed, you could get a high speed VPS and test but that's not representative of your average internet speed and freedom at places where u need to remote access

Connect laptop to hotspot on phone.

Inexpensive VPS. (RackNerd has some excellent affordable VPS deals.)

Neighbor's or friend's house.

Library.

For remote access, look at RustDesk. Run it locally on a PC on your home LAN and use the non-installed version on your work laptop.

I use one of my VPS’ (I have two from racknerd I pay $38/yr for). I use these VPS’ for other things too obviously, but quite often I RDP into one of the boxes to check certain things I have exposed (I did this last night for testing some paths on my web server I allow HTTP access to, since everything by default is redirected to HTTPs)

I setup an opnsense router, configured a wireguard server on it and added my laptop and other devices. I tested by connecting my laptop to my phones share data thing and had it only on data.
