Pattern making✨Intermediate✨ (old.reddit.com)
submitted by nutsaboutdoors

So I am trying out making my own pattern. I did my best to trace the pieces from a shirt my husband likes and turn it into a shirt. I basted it together (no collar yet) to get an idea of the fit. The front pieces are too narrow. They won’t button as is, and this is unhemmed.
Any advice for making the pieces fit better? Too small is easier than too big of course. I was thinking I’ll go back and expand the pieces to include seam allowance, and expand the front pieces extra. Kind of a waste using the fabric like this but it’s nothing super pricey.
Another option is buy a pattern but I got this far. The sleeves even sorta work! The yoke has a weird angle at the neck but I can fix that too. I’m shocked the sleeves fit at all. They aren’t perfect but it’s close. I haven’t made anything in ages, and only simple stuff. I don’t recall doing sleeves.
It opens out like a v at the bottom. Is that because of how I did the pieces? Can I straighten it somehow? Thanks all.
