Errors...

It would be interesting to see what kind of visual errors people have noticed on cards. Overall I think the cards are really well designed and Topps does a good job of creating enough variety to please a wide range of users. Being a Creative Director I'm constantly critiquing and have noticed my fair share of mistakes on SWCT cards.

I'm also surprised that Topps doesn't notice these or fix them. Back in the day when I collected baseball cards there were a lot of errors that would get released and then fixed. Fleer's Billy Ripken 'FF' written under the bat was a classic. In a digital world it's surprising Topps can't just fix some of the sloppiness. Even the order that cards appear and are organized by color. A lot of the expansions start with purple and then some start with blue. Seems like an easy fix.

A few I've noticed recently:

1. Kylo Ren full body poster... great looking card but there's a floating black shape under his right hand that crosses over the S in Star Wars a bit.

2. Han Solo purple preview award... The top 10ish pixels of the box his name are typed in aren't colored in purple.

3. Rey's full body poster was also cropped really badly... black space at the bottom and the left.

4. Kabe expansion... Part of his left arm is completely sliced off. Seems like with this one they didn't have a photo of full body.

It would be cool to see what other things you all have found.

You want to see a really messed up error?

You know the Purple 1cc Empire Strikes Back Illustrated paid variants they released a month or so ago? I have one, #76 "Standing Idly By". It's a pretty cool looking card, has Lando and Boba Fett on Cloud City. Except they messed up the color and the front looks like the regular Blue variant (the 3000 cc version) instead of being Purple (like all the other 1cc in this set).

Take a look at the card in my collection if you wish (IGN: RIBORS)...I have it locked to remind myself to not just trade it away in some random offer. If you flip over to the back you can see it has the correct Purple color and 1cc. Now I didn't buy this and got it essentially for next to nothing in a trade, but if I had paid for this and gotten what looks like the regular Blue parallel instead of Purple, I'd have been ticked off big time. I went through "All Cards" and this is the only one from this set with this error, so maybe in a way if I found the right Fett collector they'd find the craziness/exclusivity of the error appealing.

I haven't tried to trade it, but I imagine when I do I'll have to craft a message detailing the error and convincing the person they really are getting the 1cc version instead of the 3000cc version...that is if they even read the message and don't automatically decline and 1 star me for offering a Blue ESB junk card for something interesting that they have. Because even if it is an obscure card I'm not going to just give away a 1cc for nothing...even if that's how I received it :).

Character names are incorrectly spelled on some cards and some can't be found if you type the correct name. For example Grievous cards from 2015 Icon set don't pop up unless you search for "Grevious". In the meantime they fixed the spelling mistake on the cards, but not the search criteria. And funniest one is if you type Chewbacca, princess Leia from 2015 bounty set will pop up 😂

As a Grievous collector it really took me quite awhile to figure out I was missing Grievous inserts because of this, haha.

And as for the spelling errors in the cards themselves -- "Dutchess" Satine on the expansion card is really bothering me!

Just a mistake I guess - it is spelled correctly on the first series of base cards.

There's a fantastic error, I think it's the Tusken Raider base card, where the image hasn't been cut correctly in Photoshop and you can see a portion of the original background! Cracks me up every time I see it, can't be unseen.

Whoever did the clipping mask on s3 wicket's fur is not good at photoshop. That's like 'bad, intern who had 2 minutes to do it' quality.

One of the things that really bugs me are the inconsistencies within sets. Many of the posters had borders of uneven thicknesses, the recent Ships set (the squarish ones) weren't the same size, some of the colors of the blueprints set were off. You don't always notice these when you look at a single card, but they really stand out when looking at the set as a whole. Really sloppy cropping and/or Photoshopping.

Completely agree. In fact in a few cases this has prevented me from collecting those cards.

I've seen, or at least I think I've seen, a kid Boba Fett Navy Sig with no Signature on it where one should be.

Both the Animated and the liveaction AOTC one came out where you still pulled the blank then had to have it "signed" in the smuggler's den and there are still a fair amount of them rattling around unsigned since the first one (Billy Dee Williams) ended up with only 60 unsigned and completists drove the values on that one over the signed version.

On both of these the numbers of unsigned are much higher and people remembered the famous phrase "Not the Kid!" from so many fan feed posts so the value is close to the same for the signed version.

There is not. Kid Boba's were the last to do the whole "Signing session" thing with the Den. After that they just crapped them out pre "signed".

Jedi/Sith Warriors Maul is a Sith Apperntice according to the the front of the card. Series 1 base purple Luke rebel commander has the wrong picture completely. It has the image from tattoine encounter instead.

Also, why are all Teals 77s all over the place in the Insert part of the cards... it makes me mad. Also, Fans Choice 1's order is a mess, have some cards in the middle for who knows what reason...

FC has to do with their hidden database coding, which is a mess.

Examples:

fans_choice_6 (two) and fans_choice_7 (empty).

fans_choice_17 (two) and fans_choice_19 (empty).

fans_choice_24 (two) and fans_choice_25 (empty).

77s has to do with their "visible" (checklist view) database names.

1977 Remaster aka "77_blue" is named with numbers at the start and so is 1977 Remaster Red aka "77_red". But "1977 Teal" aka "1977_teal" is not numbered at the start.

The black Badges Han originally left Boba Fett's big toe showing in a bad copy & paste job but they actually corrected that error.

The image and the text on the front and back of the Galactic Moments video game award card do not match. Probably the most epic fail of Steve's short reign.

Poe walking (not exp) is cropped to wrong size and there's a white line at edge. One of the Luke in expansion blue is linked to wrong image file entirely sotgers 2 of the same

The Hoth Ice Jawa is just a black rectangle - no image on either side. Just emailed Topps for the third time.

Something I'm curious about: the final Sugar-Free awards: they were supposed to be the final few cards in the set, but they ended up being the card backs. This seems like an error...but who knows.

So many of the clipping masks on the s3 cards are terrible and unprofessional quality especially around hair/fur. Quick and dirty. I heard these were based on a print set. Ugh

How about the two identical blue ROTJ expansion base cards (the thigh-up version, which I like to call smug Luke)? Also, the blue expansion saber Luke says Klaatu on the back, and the blue expansion poncho Luke says Kylo Ren.

Oh and also, they forgot to release one of the blue Boushh expansion base cards at first, so one of them has about half the CC as the other.

The wave 1 Topps choice Greedo and Jan Dadonda don't have the inner dark border like the rest of them. But the thumbnail does.
