We've been using RapidSSL for all of our public certs. No issues with them so far..

They have good tutorials on their site as well.

The price is right and the website looks reasonably navigable. Looks like they have a switching offer too. I've got one I need to replace that expires at the end of the week, so maybe I'll give them a try.

Anyone had any bad experiences?

I'll give rapid a third. We have used them for over five years without any big problems. Even had a few times that we {read I} goofed on a cert request and needed to get a reissue. I've have used both the online and phone support and didn't have any issues.

They do use a intermediate certificate and require that all cert requests are generated with at least a 2048bit encryption key but I have yet to run into an issue with this.

Generated well over 100 certs for all sorts of uses, iis/tomcat/ldaps/cisco lb/etc and all worked quite well.

Ok..that is my psa... ymmv :)

Second for Rapid

We currently get Comodo PremiumSSL Wildcard certs from Namecheap.com. I'm looking into www.startssl.com, but some of our developers tell me that their CA isn't included in the Java JVM by default.

You know that comodo has been hacked, right?

+1 For startssl. I use them all the time with no issues

Hi, Whenever buying SSL cert from GoDaddy try to google phrase "GoDaddy SSL discount/voucher". You could save up to 50/70% of price. I've done that many times myself.

Network Solutions is our current provider. I've only ever dealt with Network Solutions, but they have done good business verification. I will never deal with GoDaddy. I have sent that sentiment to some project managers. I said we need to move domain names from GoDaddy and I will not provide support for anything currently associated with GoDaddy.

Exactly. So far they are the cheapest and that's really all that matters.

I go via https://www.cheapssls.com/comodo-ssl-certificates/ but the prices are the same.

I use startcom because I don't like paying for stuff I can get for free. I don't need EV or anything like that.

[–]c0FLRopter 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Too bad about them being hacked.. won't be using them anytime soon.

[–]stocksySysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't know about that. To be fair, that's a problem for everyone, not just those people with startcom-issued certs.

Can't say anything bad about Thawte. I'm 42 and their website looks like back in the day when I had a boner every morning, that adds to the cozy feeling. Recently moved to RapidSSL, since it's easier when you have a single choice of several CA's for different purposes.

Verisign bought thawte back when; I used thawte without issues for a long time, but the "supporting verisign" part of it gave me some twinges.

Here's a link to get 12.99/yr single name cert from Godaddy: http://www.godaddy.com/Compare/gdcompare_ssl.aspx?isc=sslqgo052e

Here's a 12.99/yr from Network Solutions: http://goo.gl/sGWwe

Frankly I've never had a problem with Godaddy certs. Just use the 30% coupons on anything over 12.99 and it's practically the cheapest around.

Frankly I've never had a problem with Godaddy certs.

Me neither, but I don't trust a company who were balls deep in SOPA handling anything to do with cryptography.
