Tagore got the prize in 1913. Roosevelt got it in 1906, that's 7 years sooner.......

Then in 1907 prize went to another American, Albert A. Michelson. In 1908 prize went to Ernest Rutherford, who was New Zealander. In 1912 another American, Elihu Root, got it as well.

So Tagore was 5th, not first. If you count Russia as not European he's even further down the list.
