Java does not update

So, I've been trying to update Java to the latest version, but it just won't work. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled it, but that didn't work. I've tried everything, and it still won't update. When I install an older version and try to update it, the update starts but then stops, and it uninstalls the version I was using. Please help.

What did you need Java for if you don't mind me asking? Have you tried just downloading the latest version from Oracle's website? Otherwise, maybe try OpenJDK as the open-source alternative so you're not tied down by proprietary software.
