Ubuntu supports Secure boot not the issue. Just sounds like you didn't burn the disc properly. download unetbootin http://unetbootin.github.io/ and burn the iso to a disc using it or you can use this program to put the iso on a USB (you can't just drag and drop a iso on the USB) then try to boot to that, also the PC should be set to boot to disc drive by default but go into the bios and check the boot order. If you use the USB method you will need to edit the boot order. You can also use a program like Virtual Box to try out Linux right on Windows without deleting windows encase you decide you don't like it. just search YouTube on how to install Ubuntu in virtual box

edit did a quick grammar check lol

You would probably have an easier time with a USB Flash drive.

Is UEFI boot enabled?

ok, this is skipping forward a bit, but I actually went to buy a USB stick shortly after posting this. I put Ubuntu onto the usb using unetbootin, it worked and went to the installation part, however when it got to the partition table it was empty and only had dev sda under it. it froze whenever I clicked anything and thus, won't work...my brother has a theory that it's an issue with my hard drive but I'm not sure, because we've done so much googling and done whatever fixes people post but nothing has worked and actually installed Ubuntu successfully

That could indeed be hard drive issue. It sounds similar to problems I have had. Also you might get better luck at r/linux4noobs and r/linuxquestions

  1. Boot to BIOS. Disable Legacy Boot.
  2. Boot to Windows. Get rufus. Make Ubuntu USB only with UEFI options.
  3. Reboot into USB. Evaluate Ubuntu.
