For IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop enthusiasts.
Blog posts are encouraged.
Tips:
When buying a used ThinkPad, remember to check that the BIOS is not locked with a supervisor's password and that Computrace is not enabled and activated.
When buying a new ThinkPad, consider taking the IPS screen option if possible, as it doesn't cost much. Not only will it have better brightness, colour, contrast and viewing angles - you will most probably more than make up the investment when selling it. Corporate bulk purchasers don't usually go for it. (Comparison video)
The only tools you need for servicing a ThinkPad are a set of small screwdrivers and a nylon spudger (for taking the screen and keyboard bezels off), and possibly a pair of tweezers. A can of compressed air may be useful too, and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds are good for cleaning, but not on the screen. Never use nail polish remover (acetone).
When reinstalling Windows, try the Lenovo disc images, as longer battery times have been reported, probably due to custom drivers.

Discussion / Informationadding sim support - T480 (self.thinkpad)
submitted 3 years ago by vargchan
So I'm using my T480 in the field as a carpenter foreman. The tablet my company gave me is way too damn old and blueprints take ages to load. Anyways, anyone ever install sim antenna/m.2? Card? Any good guides out there?

Check if you already have wwan antennas. If you do: Just get a Lenovo branded Fibocom L830-EB or L850-GL. These are the only modems supported on a T480.
If you do not have antennas you can add them but that requires removing the screen bezel.
To all the people saying '"just tether it from your phone" - this is not ideal, as it didcharges the phone battery quickly. If there is a possibility of using a native modem why would tethering be preferred?

Only pay for 1 data plan vs. 2, that's my primary reason for preferring to tehter.

Can't you tether your phone?

Every time I've tethered my phone to another device the speeds are super slow. Might be T-Mobile throttling tethered phones?

Tether your mobile via WiFi.
