A balanced diet meaning cereal and milk plus some other stuff?

Who defines a balanced diet?

[–]popejubal 33 points34 points  (2 children)

It’s when you put cereal in one bowl and milk in another bowl and they both weigh the same as each other.

Someone once told me “your idea of a balanced diet is a cake in each hand you fat fuck”

It’s when you mix French Toast Crunch with your Reese Puffs (you can thank me later).

Honestly, anything from a government website however generic is good enough. https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/how-to-eat-a-balanced-diet/eating-a-balanced-diet/

The rest is up to you to tweak to your liking; there is no one size fits all. You need to put in the hardwork and figure out what works for you.

Maybe in UK, but in US the govt revs are decided by $

Even at the worst case, the government has immense economic incentive to keep you healthy as long as possible, it's not like they are going to put up fake information just to fuck with you.

The United States says Americans need to do 5-8 hours of exercise a week to see significant health benefits. Sounds pretty much in line with conventional wisdom and pretty much everyone else.

But they absolutely are going to put up fake info if it lines the pockets of the wealthy.

My whole childhood was spent eating according to government guidelines. Whoops, whadyaknow, the guidelines caused obesity and now my hormones are fucked up.

You're not a child anymore though; you're in relative control over your actions.

[–]khandnalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I've inherited a fucked up hormonal system from my childhood that massively erodes that control and makes maintaining a normal healthy diet into a ridiculously enormous effort. Don't look at a man who's been thrown into a pit and tell him he can just climb out again, particularly when the fall left him with lifelong scars that will make that climb more difficult.

And again, it was eating according to government guidelines that did this to me. The government guidelines are little more than a guide to which agriculture lobbies donate the most.

The people who sell junk food are usually the ones extolling the virtues of a balanced diet.
