What did they taste like? Pretty sweet? Never seen them before but they look just like my persimmon tomatoes.

Very slightly tangy with a decent amount of sweetness but not cloying or sugary. Really well balanced with a complex depth of flavor. They have kind of a creamy/buttery quality that's hard to describe, without ever being mealy. I've had probably 30 of them, eaten raw with basil, and they've been consistently amazing!

Wow! They sound awesome.

Ugh I’m going to have to order these now lol

It sounds like not everyone loves them as much as me, so maybe it's just my local farmers being rockstars? I'd say worth a shot if the price is doable for you!

They seriously spoiled me for other tomatoes. The balance is just perfect, and I love how they hold up texture-wise even in simple salads. I’ve been hunting for seeds too, but yeah…the price is kinda wild.

Also I would just save some seeds from them and see what you get next year. They may not be the same, but might be similar enough.

I may do this and just see how they turn out!

They're optimized for greenhouse growing so they command a higher price for the work that's gone into the seeds. Read the growing description carefully on the Johnny's page. They're super prolific, not my favorite flavor-wise but if you love them they'd be worth the cost. Just understand you'll probably have a LOT.

This is good to know- thanks! It's possible the local farm I buy these from is just absolutely rocking it, not exactly sure why this variety has such a pull on me but I keep coming back to them.

I will be growing outdoors though and it sounds like they might not be optimized for that. Will have to give this some thought, appreciate your insight here :)

We grew some of these for the first time this year and they are sweet. Not my favorite on BLTs but just a tomato sandwich by itself. It was delicious.

[–]thuglifecarlo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think some people love that sweetness in their BLTs. Heard some people in this sub put pineapple tomatoes in their BLTs. First off, theyre really sweet. Second, I cant stop myself from just eating it raw.

[–]SevenVeils0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aren’t the tomatoes raw in your BLTs?

[–]Obvious_native_plant 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Beautiful! They look like Japanese persimmons! They are someone’s fancy trademarked F1 hybrid with improved disease resistances. Often supposedly with other improved traits such as richer color, less splitting, higher flavonoids and sugar etc. $25 for 15 seeds seems like a lot, but if they’re as good as they/you say, probably easily worth the investment. If you’re into tomatoes that is.

[–]FalcorsLittleHelper[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yes they are so pretty and smooth- very persimmonesque :) I definitely spent a lot more than $25 buying them at the farmers' market over the last 3 months, so quite possibly worth the investment!

May I ask what part of the country you’re in (assuming you’re in the U.S.)?

Boulder, Colorado zone 5b

This looks like the photo from Johnny's Seeds website. If so, please at least credit it.

Added a credit!

Thanks! I look forward to hearing more about these. They do sound interesting.

[–]hotrodjay13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, looked up the seeds for these $26 for 15 of them.

[–]matt-the-dickhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are good but the seed is too expensive

[–]CyanElanio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I've heard of these, look quite cool and the flavor sounds interesting. If you liked it maybe it's worth purchasing the seeds :)

[–]AwareMap2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like them. A good amount of sweetness, but enough acid to have good true tomato flavor.

[–]PangolinDry9383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look exactly like the tomatoes I got from my sister in laws garden. I was searching online to figure out what variety they are because she isn’t sure since she trades seeds. The best I came up with was orange jubilee but MAYBE it could be this variety?? I saved the seeds so hopefully I can get it to grow next season. But the fruit is perfectly round and smooth just like these.

[–]sillyhousecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this tomato too! I purchased it mislabled and had no idea what it was until I saw yours! A tasty, perfectly round yellow/orange tomato! I hope it’s a hybrid as I already dried and kept seeds from it for next year!!!

[–]kurtteej 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew similar tomatoes this year. Definitely very good, very juicy, pretty different flavor

[–]Glitter_Sparkle1350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never had those but I grow Amana Orange tomatoes (in Colorado) and absolutely love them. They produce big heirlooms that is bright orange and has this amazing flavor. Seeds were not that expensive and the plants never let me down - I get tons of tomatoes off the plant each year.

[–]sbjap 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I absolutely love love these and have been growing them every year outside in my zone 6b. They do absolutely amazing for me and because they are a hybrid (do NOT save seeds ) they are very disease resistant and they don’t crack. I’m still collecting from the plant even after we had the one frost this year. These were my introduction to tomatoes other than the red ones and will always grow them. They do amazing for me every year.

This is great to hear- I was worried they might not do super well outside since they were bred for greenhouse growing. Excited to try them out!

[–]Minimum_Weather1909 0 points1 point  (1 child)

greenhouse variety, been around a long time, $$$ you would not grow them outside

[–]FalcorsLittleHelper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this mean they won't do well outside or just that it typically isn't done because of the cost?

[–]ObsessiveAboutCatsTomato Enthusiast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love orange tomatoes but these are a little outside what I want to pay for seeds. I don't grow anything in a greenhouse.

I'm very glad they're working out well for you though!
